Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics will visit the Charlotte Hornets.

The Boston Celtics had to play some extra basketball in their Monday night matchup against the Washington Wizards but the extra minutes weren’t enough to prevent a 133 - 132 double overtime loss.   Monday’s game was the back end of a home and home series between the two teams and after a close Sunday game that the Celtics won, Boston was ready to take the second game as well.  Washington had other ideas and that paved the way for Monday’s battle.  The game was back and forth early on but the Celtics were able to rally to send the game into the 1st overtime.  By the time the 2nd overtime period came along, the Celtics just didn’t have anything left.   The loss broke a 3 game win streak by the Celtics but they will try to start a new streak as they face the Hornets for the first of 4 meetings between the teams this season.

The Charlotte Hornets had a few days to savor their Friday night 103 -102 victory over the New York Knicks. That win wasn’t easy for a team that had lost 10 straight coming into Friday’s game.  And even though the Knicks hadn’t been playing their best basketball, there was room for either team to win that game.  Charlotte led after the first 3 quarters but they allowed New York to make things close in the 4th.  That’s the type of thing that the Hornets will have to work on more as the season continues.  It isn’t easy to protect a lead late in a game but when you have led it for most of the way, letting a team come back in the end is not the formula for a winning basketball team.  If the Celtics come into this one still reeling from their Monday night game, the Hornets might be able to take them.
