The San Antonio Spurs will try and end the Denver Nuggets four-game winning streak this Wednesday night while keeping their grip on the No.1 seed in a battle between two heavyweights in the Western Conference. All the action from the Pepsi Center is slated to get underway at 10:30 p.m. (ET), and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
The Spurs come off this extended late-season break with a 2-3 straight up record in their last five games. They have gone a costly 2-7 against the spread in their last nine contests, and the total has stayed “under” in six of their last eight outings.
Denver extended its current winning streak to four with a wild 132-114 victory over Houston as a six-point home favorite this past Saturday. It is actually 19-2 SU in its last 21 games and 15-4-1 ATS. The total has stayed under in six of their last eight games as well.
Spurs at Nuggets Betting Storylines
San Antonio took a bit of a hit in the scoring department when Manu Ginobili (11.9 points) went down with a strained hamstring at the end of March that should keep him out of action for the next few weeks. The team’s leading scorer, Tony Parker (20.6 points), is still listed as questionable to be back in the lineup on Wednesday night after missing the last game with a shin injury, but there is a good chance that he will be ready to go.
Overall, the Spurs are ranked fourth in the NBA in scoring with an average of 103.5 points a game while shooting a very efficient 48.4 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from three-point range. Complementing all this production is a defensive effort that is holding opposing teams to an average of 96.2 points a game, which is the ninth lowest total in the league.
The Nuggets have their fair share of injuries concerns as well with Danilo Gallinari lost for the season with a torn ACL and Ty Lawson battling a foot injury that has him on the shelf for the rest of the regular season. These two combined for 32.9 points a game as the team’s top two leading scorers. In their absence, players such as Wilson Chandler and Corey Brewer have stepped up to help fill the void. These two each posted over 20 points in the win over the Rockets.
Depth has been one of the primary reasons for Denver’s success this year. The loss of Gallinari and Lawson definitely hurts, but the team still has six other players that are averaging at least nine points a game. As a team, the Nuggets are averaging 105.9 points a game, which is the third-highest total in the NBA. The only flaw in the gameplan has been on the other end of the court with a defense that is giving up an average 101 points a game.
Spurs at Nuggets NBA Betting Odds and Trends
Sportsbook.ag has opened the Nuggets as a three-point home favorite for this contest with the total line set at 204.
The Spurs are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the Western Conference and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. The total has stayed under in their last six games on the road.
The Nuggets are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games against teams from the Southwest Division and 13-4 ATS in their last 17 home games. The total has stayed under in five of their last six games at home.
Head-to-head in this matchup, the home team is 7-2 SU in the last nine meetings, but the road team is 15-3 ATS in the last 18 games. The total has gone “over” in five of the last seven meetings between the two. San Antonio has won two of the first three meetings this season SU, but Denver has a 2-1 edge ATS.
Spurs at Nuggets Picks and Betting Predictions
Looking at the current form of each team heading into this matchup, stick with Denver to continue in its winning ways as a deep bench once again fills the scoring void that was created by injuries. The final spread could move a point or two either way depending on Parker’s final playing status, but it will not come into play as the Nuggets win by a comfortable margin.
