Free NBA Picks: Knicks at Trail Blazers Odds
by Dave Schwab - 11/25/2013
The New York Knicks will try and snap a five-game skid this Monday night when they head west to the Moda Center to square off against the white-hot Portland Trail Blazers, who are riding a 10-game winning streak of their own. Tipoff for this inter-conference clash is set for 10 p.m. (ET), and the game will be available on NBA League Pass.
The good news for the Knicks is they are just 2.5 games out of first place in the watered down Atlantic Division, but the bad news is they are 3-9 both straight up and against the spread on the year. They are 2-3 SU (3-2 ATS) on the road, and the total has stayed “under” in four of those five road games.
Portland has vaulted to the top of the Northwest Division behind this impressive run, and it has the second-best record in the Western Conference at 12-2 SU. The Trail Blazers are a profitable 10-4 ATS, and the total has gone “over” in nine of the 14 games.
Knicks at Trail Blazers Betting Storylines
The Knicks latest setback was a 98-89 loss to Washington this past Saturday as 1.5-point road underdogs, with the total staying under the 187-point closing line. They had a three-point lead against the Wizards at the half, but in what has become a common theme this season, they came unglued by getting outscored by 12 points in the next two quarters. New York is averaging 93.3 points a game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three-point range.
Carmelo Anthony continues to pump in the points on a nightly basis with an average of 25.8 points a game, but that has not been nearly enough to avoid the dismal start. The loss of Chandler Tyson with a broken leg has been a big reason for this team’s demise, and Raymond Felton has also missed time in the lineup with a sore back. He is listed as “questionable” for Monday night.
It has been a total team effort for the Trail Blazers so far. They are ranked seventh in the NBA in scoring with an average of 104 points a game, and on the other end of the court they are holding teams to an average of 98.1 points a night, which is ranked 10th. Portland is eighth in the league in rebounds (44.7) and ninth in assists (23.2). They are shooting 45.4 percent from the field and a productive 42.2 percent from beyond the arc.
The Trail Blazers have four players scoring in double figures led by LaMarcus Aldridge’s team-high 22.3 points and Damian Lillard’s 19.9 points a game. Aldridge also leads the team in rebounds (9.6), and Lillard is dishing out a team-high 6.1 assists a game. Mo Williams has been productive off the bench with 9.5 points and 4.9 assists.
Knicks at Trail Blazers Betting Tends and Futures Odds
BetOnline has opened the Trail Blazers as eight-point home favorites with the total line set at 195.
The Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a SU winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a SU loss. The total has stayed under in four of their last five road games.
The Trail Blazers are just 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games at home but 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a SU win. The total has gone “over” in 18 of their last 25 home games.
Head-to-head in this matchup, Portland has won seven of the last 10 meetings SU, but New York has the slight 5-4-1 edge ATS. The total has gone over in the last three games.
NBA Free Picks: New York at Portland Betting Predictions
This will be a tough situation for the Knicks to end their current slide given how tough it is to get a road win in Portland. While the game should remain tight into the final period, look for the Trail Blazers to pull away in the end to cover the eight points.
