NBA Picks
The NBA is considered by many to be the best league for sports betting. Yes, the NFL is king in terms of popularity and wagering volume per game but nothing beats NBA basketball over the course of a season. Why? There are many opportunities to make NBA picks every night. NBA lines move more often and are not as sharp as football lines which are under the microscope all week. NBA odds have a much shorter lifespan meaning there are greater opportunities to find value. That gives Doc's basketball handicappers exponentially more opportunities to offer daily free NBA picks and be even more selective when offering expert NBA picks.
Free NBA Picks and Expert Predictions
You can find Free NBA picks throughout the Doc's Sports network including this free NBA predictions page; on our Doc's NBA Experts page; and on the Youtube channels of our expert NBA handicappers. We now also have a very popular NBA video section that is updated daily with several videos during the NBA season. Check the video link on the top navigation. Those ready to take advantage of our Free $60 in member selections can click the button at the top of this page and start receiving free expert predictions.
Get your NBA Picks Today, and Everyday!
Doc's offers expert NBA picks today and every day of the NBA season! Sure, there are the days when the NBA card consists of only tanking teams competing for the right to draft the next Zion Williamson. These teams are bad and their competition for an audience is Seinfeld reruns or maybe getting an extra hour of sleep. At Doc's we don't see this as trash basketball, we see this as a huge opportunity to make money...on trash basketball. Each day during the basketball season is an opportunity to make valuable and profitable predictions
What are NBA Picks Against the Spread?
Most NBA bettors are going to make NBA picks against the spread. This is also known as NBA picks ATS. Sportsbooks give each NBA team a handicap of X amount of points. That means if books think the Lakers are 4 points better than the Celtics they will offer a line of Lakers -4. If a Doc's handicapper has reason to believe the Lakers are much more than 4 points better, his pick against the spread would be to take the Lakers -4. This is how all bets on the spread work unless bookmakers consider both teams to be evenly matched, in which case the line is a pick, AKA pick'em. At Doc's the majority of our NBA selections are against the spread. However, there can be outstanding value on betting NBA totals.
What are NBA Over/Under Picks?
The pace of the game, as well as which team dictates the pace, is a key factor when handicapping basketball games. When pace is an especially strong signal, it may dictate a pick on the over/under. An NBA over/under pick is another way of referring to a prediction on an NBA game point total. NBA total lines are usually well above 200 in today's NBA making them harder for the betting public to find value. For example, the 2004 Detroit Pistons team was very consistently within 5 points of the 90 they averaged. In today's NBA, greater scoring means greater variance. However, professional basketball handicappers can use this to their advantage as the sportsbooks also try to keep track of the higher scoring NBA totals. Doc's sports NBA total picks are some of the best in the business and our total prediction write-ups are insightful. Along with offering our NBA expert picks, we provide free selections that are intended to help bettors with their handicapping legwork.
What are NBA Parlay Picks?
Parlay picks are sucker bets they say! Never bet and NBA parlay they say! Bettors that speak in these absolutes clearly haven't learned how to find value betting basketball. Sure, the payout on parlays at most sportsbooks have gone down to the point where putting two of your picks together for the sake of winning more is not a good investment. But what if your parlay picks could be made on the same game? That is called a correlated NBA parlay. Many sportsbooks offer the ability to make NBA bets against the spread and total in the same game. So if you have a great read on a game and expect one team to quit and fall behind, you may decide to make an NBA parlay prediction. At Doc's our experts will offer a free parlay pick in rare cases. It is not common because we need to find value for our customers on both lines before they move. If our parlay prediction is indeed on the same game, we need to confirm there is value regardless of the fact that you can't line shop the odds on a parlay. Both bets in a parlay must be made at the same sportsbook. If there is a free selection on the total over of -14 and under 200 it was offered knowing that those lines can be found at most Las Vegas sportsbooks and online.
What are NBA Playoff Predictions?
Once the regular season is over the NBA tends to resemble the national football league in many ways. Bettors have much more time to make their NBA playoff picks as teams travel to each other's arenas and rest between series. Making successful NBA playoff predictions is as much about when you bet as it is who you bet on. A series might not start for days. That means an NBA spread may move quite a few points especially as the public bets closer to the action. If we see value in a playoff prediction it will rely heavily on getting the line we are quoting in said NBA pick. In the words of the great Tony George, "We are betting numbers, not teams!" That may not be more relevant than when making picks on the NBA playoff games.

4-Unit Play Take Dallas +6 over Memphis (9:30 p.m. EST, Friday April 18)
Dallas looked great in their road play in game against the Kings. We just really like them to keep this one close or win outright. This team lost their two stars, with Doncic traded and Irving injured, but they still have the best player on the court in Anthony Davis, and a lot of players with winning experience in the postseason after their run to the NBA Finals last season. We think the NBA would want the Mavs in the postseason also over the bad-vibes Grizzlies, so we might get some calls that go our way as well.

5-Unit Play. Take #591 Dallas (+6) Over Memphis (9:30 p.m., Friday, April 18)
Just too many points for Memphis to get this cover. In fact we think Dallas has legitimate shot to win, the 3 big men returning for Dallas gives them big edge inside in this game. Add in Memphis has been downright bad the last month plus, Grizzlies might win but just can’t see it being my more than 2 baskets. Take Dallas to cover the spread on Friday night.

3-Unit Play. Take #591 Dallas (+6.5) over Memphis (9:30 p.m., Friday, April 18)
The Mavs showed they are not ready to go home just yet in their convincing win over the Kings Wednesday so the Grizz will have all they can handle in this one. Memphis is looking like one of the more dysfunctional teams still playing and maybe in the entire NBA, but a win here would go a long way to fix some of those issues. Whoever comes out on top in this one has a tall order with OKC waiting to dispose of them in four. Memphis probably pulls this one out but take the points this evening.

5-Unit Play. #590. Take Atlanta Hawks ML over the Miami Heat (Thursday @ 7pm est)
Note, we won with the 4*heat over the Bulls and we are now on a great 5-1 run in the NBA for +2030. Per NHL, We had a great 7* Winner on Pittsburgh, now 14-3 and 23-7 Run for +6100. Do you know who wants the Miami Heat to win this game? Absolutely no one. No one cares about the Heat. The NBA has basically moved on after Jimmy Butler moved to Golden State and this is a star driven league and no one wants to see Tyler Herro shoot up 20 shots and see this team in the playoffs. But, the Hawks are in a prime spot here. They are ticked off from losing to the Magic, they lost in a game where Trae got tossed as well and ejected so he will be motivated as will the entire team. Plus, the Heat have beat the Hawks the last 2 times they have played them this year, which happened in March and February - so recent. The Hawks have not lost 3 in a row to the Heat in any order for a long time as you have to go back many years in this rivalry. This is a Hawks team that is hungry, Hotlanta will be rocking, Trae is mad, they have revenge and they have a great deal of depth which was evidenced by their win at Boston earlier this year. Miami is the same team that lost to the Wizards recently and we lvoe Atlanta to step up here.

#589 Miami (+1) over Atlanta *7 EST
Despite their record, a losing one overall, Miami is the better team in this matchup and have the better coach. The Heat looked dominant over Chicago, and in a big game, defense reigns supreme and Miami by far has the better defense. Atlanta has flaws on defense everywhere and also turn the ball over. Atlanta is much like Chicago as a run and gun type team and they get sloppy at times, I will take the more disciplined team in Miami to get it done here.

4-Unit Play - #589 Miami -1-110 over Atlanta (Friday, April 18, 2025, 7:00pm ET)
Take Miami ATS as my top NBA pick for Friday night. This pick falls into one of my top NBA systems and I really like Miami in this spot. Miami did win their last two meetings against Atlanta this season by 10 points and by 22 points. Miami is the superior team defensively and I do expect them to step up on the road here and they have held opponents to just 109.8 points per game against them this season. Atlanta has struggled defensively this season with opponents shooting 48.2% against them including 37.6% from beyond the arc averaging 119.3 points per game against them. Play Miami ATS

3-Unit Play: Take 591 Mavericks +6 over Grizzlies (9:30 p.m., Friday, April 18)
I’m taking the points with Dallas. The Mavericks’ Big-3 are all healthy and we saw how formidable they can be when they aren’t dealing with injuries. Who has a better center rotation in the league?! They took it to the Kings, slammed the door on Sabonis and meanwhile, nailed their shots at the other end (Klay Thompson 8 of 11). Anthony Davis has dominated tonight’s counterpart, Jaren Jackson. Jackson and company have had no success defending A-D. And since Davis returned to the floor, the Mavericks’ metrics, at least those I care about the most, have improved quite a bit. Ja Morant has a sore ankle – although I believe he’ll play. The Grizzlies had already lost Jaylen Wells and Brandon Clarke and they’re facing a team that has more than two offensive players, unlike GSW. I’m taking the points with Dallas. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.

4-Unit Play. Take #591 Dallas (+6) over Memphis (9:30 p.m., Friday, April 18)
I don't see these points being necessary. I see this being the last game of the Grizzlies season. Memphis has been a disappointment the second half of the year and I still can't wrap my head around the firing of their head coach. Dallas has a lot of confidence after knocking off Sacramento and I like them to move on to the Western Conference playoffs with an outright win here.

4 Unit Play Take #589 Miami +1 over Atlanta (7:00pm est):
I question how much this Atlanta team still cares after their no show effort last game against Orlando as they were beat by 25 points. The Hawks are down a couple of key guys right now and there's just seems to be much fight left in them.
On the other side of things Miami really impressed me last game. They went into Chicago on the road and dominated a red hot Bulls team leading wire to wire while never taking their foot off the gas. The Heat organization finds a way to get their players to buy in even in a season like this one where they probably had no business making the post-season.
Take Miami to win this game.
Thank you and good luck,
Jason Sharpe

7 Unit Play - Take #590 Atlanta (-115) Over Miami. (7:00p.m, Friday, April 18th)
Atlanta comes into this game 40-42 on the year and just got absolutely pounded by Orlando in a 120-95 final. Orlando is straight defense, and defense wins games, especially against a team like Atlanta. Miami ranks 11th across defensive ratings, 15th across steals, and 21st on the boards. Atlanta is 5th in offensive PPG, 3rd in pace of play, 14th from the field, and 14th from the arc. Trae Young is listed as a GTD, which is a massive trap. Atlanta would not be a favorite tonight if Trae Young were out tonight. This game is spilling out traps, and I believe Atlanta wins this game by double digits. The public is going to be all over Miami, as they should be. I am calling the trap, and I believe Atlanta is going to throttle the Heat tonight.

4 Unit Play - Take #591 Dallas (+6) Over Memphis. (9:30p.m, Friday, April 18th)
Dallas just shelled Sacramento as a 4.5-point underdog. That game finished with a 120-106 final. Dallas shot 50% from the perimeter and 49% from the field, got beat on rebounds, got beat on second-point chances, and at one point had a 26-point lead. Dallas has more than enough ability to win this game outright, being led by star player Anthony Davis. Davis was traded for Luka to the Lakers. Davis did not come to Dallas to lose games. Ja Morant is listed as a GTD as he got banged up in their most recent matchup. Memphis's defense was stout all season long and fell apart towards the 2nd half of the season. The book has this line wrong. This line is based off season metrics as opposed to what these teams have been doing as of late. I believe this theory is based on how the markets can pull the public into the trap. I believe not only does Dallas cover this game, but I would be by no means surprised if they win this game outright. Let's ride Dallas here with a huge trap incentive on our hands.
Take #591 Dallas (+6) Over Memphis.

7 Unit Play: #589 Miami Heat ML over Atlanta Hawks (-110) (7:00p.m, Friday, April 18th)
We have the last day for the play-in games before the real playoffs start up. This matchup is between the Miami Heat and the Atlanta Hawks. The Heat had a dominant performance on the road in Chicago, where they beat the Bulls by 19 points, 109 to 90. The Atlanta Hawks dropped their last game to the Magic on the road by 25 points. This Hawks team has no defense. The Miami Heat squad is expected to play a hard-nosed defense. Yes, Atlanta is currently 5th in the NBA in points per game and 3rd in pace of play. But guess what, the Bulls had the same numbers as this Atlanta Hawks team, and the Heat played defense like it was the playoffs. So did Orlando and look what happened to the high-power offense for the Atlanta Hawks. If you want to win this late in the NBA, you need to play some type of defense. This Atlanta Hawks team doesn’t play good defense whatsoever. They try to beat you by pushing the ball in transition and relying on Trae Young to get hot. If you slow down Trae Young in this game, I’m sorry, but this Hawks team doesn’t have anyone else to really take over the game. On the other hand, this Miami Heat team has Herro, who went completely off against the Bulls with 38 points in the win. They also have Bam, but a player I believe will be key for tonight's game. Is going to be Andrew Wiggins here tonight. Atlanta is going to have a game plan to stop Herro first from the perimeter. But this is going to leave a guy like Wiggins open on the outside. We’re just going to need to knock down the shot tonight. This Miami Heat team knows what to expect here tonight from the Hawks, and I trust Erik Spoelstra in do-or-die situations to have this team ready to go. Playing their hard noise defense and having their playmakers hit their shots. While this Atlanta Hawks team is falling apart slowly. Trae Young has had enough of this team and Quin Snyder. If Young doesn’t play the whole game, this team is going to be in trouble without him on the court. You can tell when Trea isn’t on the court. The offense doesn’t flow the same way when he has the ball in his hands. Simply, Miami Heat shut down Young like Orlando did in the first half of their game. The Heat will move on tonight into the playoffs. I believe they will do so here tonight; take the Miami Heat moneyline over the Atlanta Hawks.

4-Unit Play - #589 Miami -1-110 over Atlanta (Friday, April 18, 2025, 7:00pm ET)Take Miami ATS as my top NBA pick for Friday night.

3-Unit Play: Take 591 Mavericks +6 over Grizzlies (9:30 p.m., Friday, April 18)I’m taking the points with Dallas. 4-Unit Play. Take #591 Dallas (+6) over Memphis (9:30 p.m., Friday, April 18)I don't see these points being necessary.

Friday April 18th 2025-4 Unit Play Take #589 Miami +1 over Atlanta (7:00pm est):
I question how much this Atlanta team still cares after their no show effort last game against Orlando as they were beat by 25 points. The Hawks are down a couple of key guys right now and there's just seems to be much fight left in them.
On the other side of things Miami really impressed me last game. They went into Chicago on the road and dominated a red hot Bulls team leading wire to wire while never taking their foot off the gas. The Heat organization finds a way to get their players to buy in even in a season like this one where they probably had no business making the post-season.
Take Miami to win this game.
Thank you and good luck,

7 Unit Play - Take #590 Atlanta (-115) Over Miami. (7:00p.m, Friday, April 18th)Atlanta comes into this game 40-42 on the year and just got absolutely pounded by Orlando in a 120-95 final.

7 Unit Play: #589 Miami Heat ML over Atlanta Hawks (-110) (7:00p.m, Friday, April 18th)We have the last day for the play-in games before the real playoffs start up.
