Since its inaugural race two seasons ago, NASCAR will be on its third visit to World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, IL. This is an asphalt track that spans 1.25 miles, and it is an oval. In turns 1 and 2 you'll see banking of 11 degrees while turns 3 and 4 offer 9 degrees of banking. NASCAR just began racing on this track in 2022, but before that, World Wide Technology Raceway played host to the Xfinity Series, Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR's lower divisions for many years. With that said, there isn't a lot of data to work from when looking at who has performed well on this track, but we can use the last two races as guidelines to determine who we think will fare well.

This race is split into three stages with the first being 45 laps, the second being 95 laps and the last stage is 100 laps for a total of 240. If we look at the past two races, we can gather there will be a lot of side by side racing and average speeds around 135 mph. This is because the asphalt provides a lot of traction. You might think that this race is similar to that at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway because of the lower banks in this oval, however, this track is a bit smaller than most other intermediate tracks that you'll see on the circuit.

When looking at the drivers who might perform well, you have to look at their current state of racing and how they've done in the past. Kyle Busch has an average finish of 1.5 here and has led 187 laps. With that said, drivers like Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney still have better odds because of the way they've been racing.

Coca-Cola 600 Recap

Christopher Bell earned his second win of the season after waiting out heavy rainstorms and lightning delays. While the race was shortened by 151 laps, Bell led the most with 90 laps and won the second stage of the Coca-Cola 600. One of the biggest moments of the race for Bell was when Bell was able to hold off Brad Keselowski in a 10-lap run after Corey LaJoie caused a caution on lap 229. At the restart, Bell and Keselowski were side by side and ended up having a lead of almost six car lengths before the race was called. Anyone saying he didn't deserve the win because of the shortened race didn't watch it.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

We have the same leader in the playoff race with Denny Hamlin sitting at the top of the standings with three wins and 492 points. William Byron is still in second with three wins and 461 points. Kyle Larson is holding down the third spot in the Playoff race with 2 wins and 486 points. Christopher Bell moved into the fourth spot with his second win and 387 points, while Chase Elliott is holding down the fifth spot with a win and 475 points.

Kyle Larson is still one of the drivers to beat in this race and he didn't get to race in Charlotte this past week because of weather delays and his Indy 500 start. Good news for Larson and the people laying wages down on him is that he's already won twice at the two most similar tracks on the circuit in Las Vegas and Kansas. I look for him to keep up the trend.
