NASCAR will spend another weekend in North Carolina when it goes to the intermediate oval in Charlotte. The Coca-Cola 600 will take place at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the heels of the All-Star Race, and it's been tradition to race here over Memorial Day weekend for some time now. With a long holiday weekend, what better way to celebrate in NASCAR than with the longest race of the season. This race runs 600 miles and while it is very long, it is one of the fastest tracks on the circuit. We're talking big stakes here and the racers will be feeling the pressure. This is one of many 1.5-mile tri-ovals in the NASCAR Cup Series. Charlotte seems to offer up more side-by-side racing than other similar tracks (Texas and Atlanta) and horsepower is going to be one of the most important factors to consider. Drivers and cars can get worn down during the 400 laps run here under the lights. Crew chiefs will also have to be aware of the fuel as this race generally runs long periods without caution flags. This is an extra 100 miles which might not seem like a lot to look out for, but you'd be surprised.

Drivers didn't get much in the way of preparation after running the All-Star race last weekend. The only similarity between the two races is that both are under the lights at night. The short track, 200-mile race doesn't give us much to go off when trying to project top racers. One thing it does offer is the opportunity to finely tune the cars to the track as there will be many pit stops along the way. The teams that are able to keep up with the changing surface and night cool air will most likely do very well this weekend. The team that starts the best here doesn't always end the best so making sure they are making adjustments is going to be very important.

NASCAR All-Star Race Recap

Joey Logano was dominant last weekend at the All-Star Race. He led for a race record 199 out of 200 laps and was able to keep the other drivers at bay. One of the keys to this race for Logano was running on softer tires, and by doing that, was able to edge out Denny Hamlin by 0.636 seconds. It was the second win for Logano at the All-Star race and the fifth for Team Penske.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

Nothing changed with the points going into this weekend's race after the All-Star race as it doesn't count towards the playoffs. Denny Hamlin still sits at the top with three wins and 447 points with William Byron right behind him with three wins and 400 points. Kyle Larson is holding down the third spot in the Playoff race with 2 wins and 486 points. Chase Elliott and Tyler Reddick are in the fourth and fifth spots with one win each. They have 437 points and 396 points respectively.

Kyle Larson is riding some serious momentum going into the race at CMS. On this style of track, Larson has led 338 total laps this season and has two wins in those races. He won in Charlotte back in 2021 and has led almost 400 laps in his last three races here. He has as good a shot as anyone to take the checkered flag this weekend.
