History will be made this weekend as NASCAR heads to Chicago, IL for the first time a race has been conducted on a metropolitan street course. This track runs through the city of Chicago and spans 2.14 miles. It has 12 turns in the iconic Grant Park area of downtown Chicago. Some of the more recognizable location points include Lakefront Green park, Lake Shore Drive, Buckingham Fountain and Mag Mile, or better known as Michigan Ave. The first-ever race is going to be really interesting and fun as top speeds are going to be limited. The 12 turn, extremely technical race has some 90 degree turns as well, so there will be much strategy involved in saving tires and brakes. The event goes for 100 laps in which the first stage will be 20 laps, 25 laps for the second stage and the final stage going for 55 laps. This circuit will be in a similar vein as the street courses that both IMSA and IndyCar use in cities like St. Petersburg, Long Beach and Detroit. It's going to a fascinating. experiment in NASCAR and should be one of the most fun races of the season.

In terms of trying to get a feel for who is going to do well in this race, there isn't a lot to go off. That said, we look for similarities that can give some sort of insight to what we might expect when drivers hit the streets of Chicago this weekend. Our best bet is to go to the various road races that drivers have raced on and try to use that. It's really the only sort of measure that can be used when trying to pick a winner. When looking at tracks like Circuit of the Americas, Sonoma, Watkins Glen International, the Charlotte Roval and the Indianapolis Grand Prix circuit, drivers like Chris Buescher, Chase Elliott, Michael McDowell and Austin Cindric are some of the better drivers and some names that you can say might do well this weekend.

Ally 400 Recap

A day after winning his first career pole position, Ross Chastain took home the trophy in Sunday's Ally 400. It was an exciting day to win in front of a sold-out crowd in the city where his Owner, Justin Marks, grew up. In the end, Chastain had to fight off Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. to get the win by just 0.789 seconds. He led for 99 laps out of 300, which happened to be a race best and he held firm for the final 34 laps to take the win.

With the win, Ross Chastain pushed himself into the top 5 of the Playoff standings this season by getting his first win and holding 558 points. William Byron is the current leader with 3 wins and 558 points while Kyle Busch sits right behind him with 3 wins and 576 points. The red-hot martin Truex Jr sits in the third spot with 2 wins and 576 points and Kyle Larson holds down the fourth spot with 2 wins and 475 points.

As well as Martin Truex Jr. has been racing lately, we have to pick him as having a great chance to win. He just won in Sonoma, which is about as similar a race to Chicago as we'll find, and he was runner up this last weekend. He's had four straight top-5 finishes and leads the field in points. I like him to win in this inaugural event.
