Madison, IL will be the place where NASCAR will visit this weekend when the Enjoy Illinois 300 presented by TicketSmarter runs its course. Last season was the inaugural event at World Wide Technology Raceway, and everyone is hoping for another exciting race this weekend. This is a moderately banked oval that spans for 1.25 miles on an asphalt paved track. Turns 1 and 2 feature 11 degrees of banking on each one and turns 3 and 4 have nine degrees of banking. NASCAR just began racing this track last year, but prior to that, this track hosted the lower divisions of NASCAR, the Craftsman Truck Series and the Xfinity Series. Because of this, there isn't a great deal of data to work from when trying to determine who has the best shot at winning this race, but we can look at similar tracks and make our assessments.

This race runs 240 laps with the first stage going 45 laps, the second stage is 95 laps, and the final stage goes for 100 laps. Because the asphalt surface offers a nice grip and a good deal of side-by-side racing, we saw average speeds around 135 mph. The lower banked intermediate ovals like we see at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway offer us some similarities in what we'll be seeing this weekend. That said, it is a bit smaller in size than most of the intermediate ovals you'll find on the NASCAR circuit, but it's all there is to go off of.

Coca-Cola 600 Recap

This ended a 59-race drought for Ryan Blaney at the Coca-Cola 600. Blaney had a fantastic race and led for a career best and race-high 163 laps out of 400 on Sunday night. He just kept getting faster as the race went on and he was able to fend off William Byron, who already has three wins on the season. It was a good day for Penske who had Josef Newgarden win the Indy 500 the day before. For Blaney, it was his first win since August 28, 2021, and it was a sweet one for him.

After a rain delay and a bunch of late race cautions, Blaney was able to lead the field back to green with just 20 laps remaining in the race. He ended up taking the checkered flag by .663 seconds over Blaney. Martin Truex Jr grabbed the bronze while Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick came in fourth and fifth respectively.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

William Byron still holds the top spot in the playoff standings with three wins and 442 points. Following him is Kyle Busch with two wins and 392 points, while Kyle Larson follows him with 377 points and two wins for himself. Ryan Blaney has now pushed himself into the fourth spot with a win and 445 points while Martin Truex Jr. comes in fifth with a win and 433 points.

William Byron has been very successful in mid-sized ovals this season, which bodes well for him this weekend. He won at Las Vegas and has three top-5 finishes for the year and almost pulled out the win last weekend in Charlotte. Byron has a big advantage going into this weekend and it looks like he has as good a shot as any to win this race.
