With one week down in the NASCAR schedule, now we get into the racing that counts towards the Playoffs. What better way to start this off than Speedweeks in Daytona for the Daytona 500. The season really ramps up now with the Clash at the Coliseum behind us. Now we've got two races down with the NextGen car, teams should have a better idea on how to set up their cars for the coming race.

Looking to defend his title at the Daytona 500 is Austin Cindric after taking the checkered flag in his rookie season. There will be some big-time competition in this race for him, and the statistics aren't favorable for him. The only driver to win the Great American Race in consecutive season was Denny Hamlin back in 1995.

That said, every driver wants get a win under their belt in Daytona and hoist the Harley J. Earl Trophy at least one time in their career. This is probably the most prestigious race in NASCAR and in the same breath, the most wide open race to be won. While skill and strategy play a big role in this race, we've seen over the years that it takes a bit of luck to be the one that gets the victory in this race.

Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum Recap

With the stands packed for the excitement that would ensue, Martin Truex Jr. was able to get the win for the first time in over a full season. Truex was able to hold off Richard Childress Racing's Austin Dillon by just 0.786 seconds. He led the final 25 laps out of the 150 lap race in this non-points exhibition race. It was the first win in this race for Truex. Finishing in third was Austin Dillon's new teammate and two time NASCAR series champ, Kyle Busch.

It was a fun race in a packed Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum that is 100 years old. It was a mix of old and new fans there to enjoy the new season and to watch this race in such a legendary location. The next race will follow this up as another to truly enjoy as the Great American Race is a fixture in all of sports.

As one of the top drivers coming into the season, Chase Elliott is looking to have another fantastic performance on the race track when they head to Daytona this weekend. As we said at the beginning of this article, skill and strategy do play a role in this race, but a little luck never hurt anyone and we feel like Elliott is going to have the luck this weekend.
