NASCAR goes back under the lights this weekend at the Coke Zero Sugar 400. Daytona International Speedway is the location for the race this weekend and it's the second time that NASCAR has raced here this season. This race used to be held on the fourth of July, but NASCAR changed that a few years ago and made it the last regular season race of the season and it is an important one for a lot of drivers. This is the cut race for drivers to get into the playoff picture and the Chase for the Cup. Expect to see a lot of action this weekend as drivers look to improve their position in the hunt for a championship in addition to drivers trying to make the cut.

While the Daytona 500 runs during the day, this one will be an entertaining and dramatic race under the lights. In 2023, this will be the third superspeedway race so there are some trends we can look at on these larger oval tracks. The aerodynamic package that will be used is the same one that was used at the Daytona 500 and made it an extremely exciting race. We hope to have this same kind of action this weekend. If we drivers race similarly to how they did at the Daytona 500, it's going to be a lot of fun. There were an incredible 57 lead changes by 21 drivers which happened to be the highest amount of lead changes since 2011. We'll see if the race this weekend will keep with that theme. It might be as this will be the third installment of a superspeedway race.

All that said, a night race with these kinds of implications makes for a really fun night of racing.

Another race, another win for William Byron who added to his season highlight reel last weekend when held off Denny Hamlin by an impressive 2.632 seconds to win his fifth win of the season. It's the most wins for him in a season for his career and it was an impressive race to say the least. Byron led this race for 66 laps out of the total 90 laps. Denny Hamlin's second place finish keeps his hopes alive of winning the regular season championship as he is sitting with 822 points, just 39 points pack of leader Martin Truex Jr.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

William Byron is having an incredible year and stole a chance for one more driver to make the final cut for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. With his fifth win of the season, Byron is sitting alone at the top with 785 points. Martin Truex Jr. is sitting there with three wins and 861 points with Kyle Busch right behind him with three wins and 688 points. Rounding out the top five are Denny Hamlin with two wins (822 points) and Kyle Larson with two wins and 721 points. There are three more spots available for new race winners to make a run at the playoffs and they had better hurry if they want a shot at the postseason.

Denny Hamlin has a lot to race for this weekend as he sits behind Martin Truex Jr for the points lead. Since 2016, Hamlin has had three Daytona 500 wins. He knows what it takes to win here with over 650 laps led in his career at this track. I like his chances this weekend with so much to race for.
