One of the interesting things about driving race cars is that a driver and team are in control of their own destiny. The better they drive, the more successful they'll be. Talladega has a reputation to taking a great driver and breaking him down. Taking the hopes and dreams of teams and shattering them. This is the longest, fastest speedway that has ever been known and will take you out if you're not careful.

The YellaWood 500 will take place this weekend in Talladega and it's the second race of the round of 12 in the NASCAR playoffs. Because of the nature of superspeedway racing, this might be the biggest wildcard race in the entire playoff series. This track has had a reputation of playing spoiler to championship dreams and because of this reason, there couldn't be a more satisfying way to lock your spot into the Round of 8 than by winning this race.

Four drivers will be going home this weekend without moving on to the next round. For some there will be heartbreak and for others, jubilation. We're fortunate that we're here to be able to see it.

AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 500 Recap

They say that everything is bigger in Texas and the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 500 lived up to the expectations. The Round of 12 Playoff opener was exciting from beginning to end and between the aggressive nature of the race, the red-flag delay, having a tire fall off and broken records, this was one that you didn't want to miss. With all the craziness of the race, Tyler Reddick was able to come out on top when all was said and done. He got the win by 1.190 seconds over Joey Logano. He made a run from 24 laps out to capture the checkered flag and it was his third win this season (first win on an oval).

From vibrations in the car and pit road issues, Reddick was able to overcome some issues and pull out the victory.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

As we sit, Joey Logano is in the top spot with 3,071 points and is 37 points ahead of Ross Chastain (3,059 points). Kyle Larson is holding down third place with 3,057 points and one stage win, while Ryan Blaney is in fourth with 3,056 points. Rounding out the top five is Denny Hamlin with 3,049 points.

Once again, there was another race winner from outside the playoff field. This is quite unusual and the question remains, will we get a winner from the playoff field this weekend. Of any race on the schedule, one at Talladega is a recipe for chaos. We might be on the verge of seeing the fifth straight win from a driver outside the playoff field. That said, we like Ross Chastain in this race. While you can never tell what's going to happen at Talladega, Chastain has as good a chance as any in this one.

Now we will ride them for a second straight week against another NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are 8-2 on the season, yet are only around a field goal favorite. I still do not trust Sam Donald to win consistently over the course of a 17 game regular season. Minnesota is not as good as their 8-2 record would indicate and playing outdoors in Chicago on Sunday will cause issues for them on both sides of the ball. Chicago has been hit or miss this season, but they will be up to play another divisional rival and we expect them to take this down to the wire as well.
