NASCAR will head back to short track racing in Richmond after racing on a road circuit course. The small oval in Virginia will host the Toyota Owners 400 on Sunday. This three-quarter mile oval has 14 degrees of banking in all of the turns. Due to the higher speeds, you'll get the feel of Charlotte and fender beating you take at Bristol. Average laps are around 130 mph, which when compared to half mile short tracks, it is much faster. The drivers will need to conserve their brakes for this race like other short tracks on the circuit. The rotors and brake pads will take a beating from the constant braking in all the corners. Overdriving this track can result in a short day for drivers and this has happened to many. Fuel conservation and pit strategy will also play a big role in this race because of long green flag runs.

In my opinion, this is one of the best venues on the tour because of the momentum swings, changing strategies and overall competition. It would be hard to top last weekend's race, but with all the parity this season, we can see this being the best one yet.

EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix Recap

This was an action packed, thrilling race that led to Ross Chastain smashing his way to his first Cup Series win in his career at the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix. Not only did he get the victory, but he really had to earn it out there. In a two lap final overtime with four lead changes, and a frantic pace, Chastain was able to get by Alex Bowman and AJ Allmendinger in the last series of turns. Not only was it Chastain's first win, but it was Trackhouse Racing's Justin Marks, his first win as an owner in the Cup Series.

Chastain was able to grab the lead on the final corner and got the victory by 1.331 seconds. Allmendinger wouldn't recover after some contact on the final lap which left the door open for Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott and Tyler Reddick to finish in the top-5.

Chastain led for 31 laps out of the total of 69 (race-high). This wild race set a Cup road-course record with 30 green flag passes for the lead making this one of the most fun races to watch this season. It isn't surprising as this season has been a wild one. Chastain happened to be the one coming out in front in this wild race.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

With six races down, Alex Bowman sits in the top spot with 183 points and a win. Ross Chastain has moved up into the second spot after his win last weekend and sits with 180 points and that elusive first Cup Series win of his career. William Byron sits in third with 175 points while Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric and Kyle Larson round out the top six racers with a win. Chase Elliott is the overall points leader with 208 points on the season with Ryan Blaney right behind him with 195 points.

This is a tough race to pick a winner. I might normally consider picking a Toyota, but until they show something this season, I'll stay away from that. Ryan Blaney is having a great season, but Richmond has been a tough go for him statistically. Martin Truex Jr. has a great record here and has three wins in his last six races at Richmond.
