This weekend comes the first race of the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs. Two seasons ago, NASCAR used the race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to start the Playoff race, but now it has been moved to a spot that sits deeper into the Playoff run. The South Point 400 is the location where the big names of NASCAR will race to work towards securing their spot as the champion this season.

This will be the second time this season that NASCAR has visited the Las Vegas oval. To determine who we think might take this one, there are several factors that need to be taken into account. The first thing one should look at are the hot streaks of current drivers and how others have fared in Las Vegas. Hot drivers should carry their recent successes into this next race. Next, you'll have to see how drivers have raced on similar ovals this season. Being that this is an intermediate oval, there have been a lot of races on tracks like this one this season. Finally, and most likely the best way to look at this race, is how drivers faired on this track when they raced here earlier this year.

All that said, when the tires hit the pavement, you can count on a race that will be extremely competitive. Some might argue that you can make an educated guess on the winner based on these stats and others will say you can throw it all out when the playoffs come. No matter what, this should be a fun race to watch in Las Vegas.

Bank of America Roval 400 Recap

In a crazy turn of events, Christopher Bell found his way into the Round of 8 with a spectacular win at Charlotte Roval. Bell was able to make a move and pass Kevin Harvick on Lap 111 after a strategic pit stop that got him some fresh tires under caution on Lap 105. With the win, Bell was able to move into the top 8 drivers and at the same time, take out the reigning champion Kyle Larson, who had to go to pit road after hitting a wall and taking out a toe link in his car.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

Christopher Bell was able to bump Kyle Larson out of the Round of 8 with his win this weekend and putting him into the 4th spot with 4,018 points. Chase Elliott still sits at the top of the board with 4,046 points with Joey Logano right behind him (4,026 points). Sitting in the third spot is Ross Chastain with 4,021 points this season and Ryan Blaney rounds out the top 5 with 4,015 points on the season.

The race this weekend feels like one a Toyota might win. I thought this would be the case in Texas too, but tire issues ended up overshadowing the winner of the race. That said, if this is going to be a race won by the fastest car, we think it would be Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell or Martin Truex Jr. We're going to choose Denny Hamlin in this one.
