The Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube is the 27th race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the history of the series. This track has held a race each season from 1998 to 2017 and 2 each year from 2018 going forward. This track is a 1.5-mile tri-oval track that has nine degrees of banking on the front and backstretch, while each turn sits at 20 degrees. This track first opened in 1996 and the Cup Series had its first race there in 1998. Mark Martin was the man to take the checkered flag in that race.

The aggressiveness of the drivers and the Next Gen car has made for an exciting start to the NASCAR season, and we don't expect it to slow down this weekend.

Wise Power 400 Recap

Kyle Larson showed up to race as the defending winner of this race. That was the first win as the No. 5 for Hendrick Motorsports, and he ended up tacking on nine more wins. In that race he led for 103 laps. on his way to beat Denny Hamlin.

Last weekend was much of the same with Kyle Larson being at the front of the pack. That said, it was a race that was pretty chaotic race.

This race featured 12 caution flags. One of NASCAR's most consistent drivers in Kyle Larson ended up taking advantage of some of these accidents and found himself in the front group in the third stage of the race.

Chase Elliott would be taken out of contention after he was spun out by teammate Kyle Larson with under 20 laps to go before the end of the race. This would lead to a close finish over the final four laps. On the restart, Daniel Suarez would go outside to take the lead over Larson with just three laps to go, but just one lap later, Larson would take the inside route to get the lead back from Suarez. Austin Dillon would make a late push to try to take the lead, but Larson was able to fend him off for the rest of the race and ended up taking home the victory.

For much of the race, it seemed Tyler Reddick was going to run away with the win. He won both the first and second stage of the race and was on his way to getting the win. However, like many drivers on this day, Reddick would get a flat tire. He was hit by William Byron when he started to spin, and it ended up taking out both drivers for the day. In the end, Reddick would finish 24th while Elliott finished 26th. They were a whole lap down from Larson when all was said and done.

As we sit, Austin Cindric leads the pack with 85 points (1 win) with Kyle Larson 20 points behind him at 65 points (1 win). Joey Logano comes in at third with 77 points, followed by Martin Truex Jr (73 points) and Ryan Blaney (70 points).

You typically see drivers from the top teams do well in a race like this. For the most part, this is a standard intermediate track. We expect to see some familiar names in the top-5 when all is said and done. This is a tougher race to pick than one might think. We would have hoped for more answers in Fontana in terms of racing this kind of track, but we didn't get that. We think it will end up being a Penske car because they seemed to have been able to get the most out of these Next Gen cars.
