This weekend, NASCAR heads to Darlington so drivers can face "The Track Too Tough to Tame" in the Goodyear 400. From overhead shots, this track looks more like an egg than the traditional paperclip speedway. This 1.33-mile oval track has an asphalt racing surface. Turns 1 and 2 offer 25 degrees of banking while turns 3 and 4 offer 23 degrees of banking. One of the unique parts of this track is that drivers will be required to race against the wall and because of this, drivers earned what are called "Darlington Stripes" from grazing the wall.

When looking at this race from a historical standpoint, Toyotas have had a lot of success here. That said, the NextGen cars seems to be changing everything up that we have known in the past. Not only have the NextGen cars changed the game, managing tire dispersal, ensuring lug nut security and pit stop accuracy are all extremely crucial factors in this rough race. One thing we can predict for the upcoming NASCAR race is that it will be an exciting one with a lot of changes at the front.

The DuraMAX Drydene 400 Recap

Last weekend gave us another driver with their first win of the season in Chase Elliott. Now all four drivers for Hendrick Motorsports have earned a win in 2022. However, this day was about Elliott. Out of the 400-lap race, Elliott led for the final 53 laps to take it home. He was able to pull away from Ricky Stenhouse Jr. after have 12 cautions that included a red-flag weather delay that led to the race being put off until Monday.

Elliott got his 14th win of his career, and it was the fifth win for Hendrick Motorsports in 2022, which happens to be the best start they have ever had. In fact, this is the first time that all four drivers of one team have won a race in the first 11 races of the NASCAR season.

Finishing behind Elliott was Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in 2nd place. While he was looking for the win, Stenhouse seemed pleased with his performance as it was only the second top-10 finish of the season for him. Ross Chastain finished in third but had a little contact with Martin Truex Jr. on the final lap while fighting for position. Chastain was able to keep it steady, but Truex Jr spun out and it led to some conversation between the two after the race.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

The win for Chase Elliott thrusted him into the number three spot in playoff standings with 418 points. The two drivers ahead of him are William Byron (two wins and 353 points) and Ross Chastain (two wins and 338 points). Kyle Busch sits in the fourth spot with 353 points and a win, while Alex Bowman is in fifth with 349 points. The next five include Kyle Larson, Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney respectively.

While Kevin Harvick might not be one of the favorites of this race, his last six races here have put him into consideration. The No. 4 car has finished in the top-10 in all six of those races, top-5 in five of them and two 1st place finishes. While the history of this race isn't a determining factor, it is something to think about. We like Harvick in this race.
