Last weekend was the last time we'll see a short track this season. For some drivers it's a sad goodbye and for others, they couldn't wait to leave them behind. Drivers like Chase Briscoe and Tyler Reddick would love to have an opportunity to have a 'redo' on the dirt. On the other hand, a driver who was notorious for his dislike of dirt tracks ended up winning the race.

Now the drivers head to Talladega for the Geico 500 where they'll race on the longest track of the NASCAR Series circuit. This track is 2.66 miles long and has 33-degree banks in all of the turns. Dale Earnhardt is the most successful driver of all time on this track, having notched 10 wins, 23 top-5 finishes and 27 top-10 finishes.

Food City Dirt Race Recap

Kyle Busch had a bit of luck on this race as he was able to pull out the win after being a distant third towards the end of the race. Chase Briscoe was looking good until he slid up high into Tyler Reddick, who was leading the race. Briscoe caused both drivers to turn sideways on the final corner. Reddick was able to right his car to head towards the finish line, but Busch had too much momentum and finished the race .330 seconds ahead of Reddick.

This race was rain delayed two times, and after the second one, Busch restarted second on lap 227. However, Reddick was able to get the lead from him on lap 232.

This was the 60th career win for Kyle Busch, which put him at ninth all time in wins, and first among drivers that are active. This win guaranteed a playoff spot for Busch in addition to tying Richard Petty with 18 straight years with a win. While many fans weren't happy with the win, Busch just grasped an advantageous situation and ran with it. Reddick took the loss in stride and will be looking to make up for it in this week’s race.

After the spin out, Chase Briscoe ended up finishing in 22nd place. Joey Logano earned the third-place finish, 4.004 seconds behind Busch. Kyle Larson was the fourth-place finisher while Alex Bowman finished in fifth.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

William Byron is still the leader of the pack with 2 wins and 295 points on the season. Alex Bowman sits in 2nd with 273 points, while Kyle Busch just elevated himself to the third spot with a win and 273 points. Behind him sits Ross Chastain with 250 points, while Kyle Larson is in 5th with 249 points. Chase Briscoe, Austin Cindric and Denny Hamlin all have a win under their belt and are looking to tack on more points to go into the playoffs with. Just sitting outside with no wins is Chase Elliott. A win would have Elliott sitting in first place as he currently has 324 points.

Team Penske drivers Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney are both due for a win and there are a lot of factors that give us hope that one of them will prevail. They are the top two drivers in ratings at Talladega, they finished third and fifth last week and they are second and third in overall cup standings. We like Joey Logano to take the checkered flag this week.
