As the playoff hunt intensifies, we head to Richmond, VA for the Federated Auto Parts 400. This is the 24th race of the season and for drivers on the bubble and just outside, the pressure is increasing, and drivers need to start making some moves if they want to make a run. Richmond used to be the place where the playoff race was determined, but over the years, things got shook up and NASCAR put this race into the Chase playoff 10 races. That said, in 2022 NASCAR decided to move this race in Richmond back into the group that will determine who will be making a run at a championship. The intensity in this race will be different than in years passed as drivers are making their final push while the regular season winds down. The race in Richmond will have a different feel than this race but just as important. We saw in Brooklyn, MI that drivers are willing to take more chances because of the pressure of making the cut. It should be a thrilling weekend on this small oval.

This track is a small oval with a group of drivers that have dominated over the years. If we look at the data, we can get an idea of who might perform well this weekend. When it comes to driver efficiency, the short tracks will generally give us a better idea of who we might see running up front and because of this, some of these drivers that we've seen perform well in Richmond are probably some of the same names you saw perform well in New Hampshire just a few weeks ago. Over the last 34 races, drivers like Kyle Busch have an average finish of 6.9 at this track while Kevin Harvick sits at 8.2 and Denny Hamlin at 8.5. Expect to see these guys towards the top of the pack.

So, it finally happened and after 65 races without a win, Kevin Harvick finally grabbed that elusive victory. With this win, Harvick has saved his season and is currently in the running for a playoff run. After the restart on Lap 166 of 200, Harvick was able to pull away and won by 2.903 seconds over Bubba Wallace and jumped over Martin Truex Jr. in the standings, who probably needed the win as much as anyone.

Behind Bubba Wallace was Denny Hamlin in 3rd place, Joey Logano in 4th and Ryan Blaney in 5th.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

Chase Elliott still sits at the top of the playoff standings with four wins and 847 points. He still sits in a very solid position heading into the final weeks of the season. Sitting behind Elliott with two wins each are Ross Chastain (710 points), Joey Logano (673 points), William Byron (617 points) and Tyler Reddick (557 point). Ryan Blaney is now the only driver that currently sits in a playoff position without a win on the season with Truex Jr. getting bumped because of Harvick's win.
