This weekend's race will take place at a track with no history in the NASCAR Cup Series. What used to be Gateway International Raceway and Gateway Motorsports Park, is now World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. This is an asphalt oval track that spans 1.25 miles. This is a uniquely shaped track that features 11 degrees of banking in both turns 1 and 2, in addition to 9 degrees of banking in turns 3 and 4.

So, while there isn't any history on this track in terms of the Cup Series, we can make assumptions based on the kind of track we're looking at. No matter what happens, this should be an extremely exciting race for the simple fact that it is so new. So, buckle up race fans because this should be an exciting race with a lot of meaning for the rest of the season.

Coca-Cola 600 Recap

The Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night started and ended with Denny Hamlin at the front of the pack. It's what happened in between is what made this such a wild race. This was the longest race in NASCAR history as it went through two overtimes and 619.5 miles. Hamline was able to beat out his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch and did by a mere 0.014 seconds. This was the second win for Hamlin on the season and marked his 48th win of his career. With the win here, Hamlin has a win at all three of the crown-jewel races in the Cup Series including the Coca-Cola 600, Daytona 500 and Southern 500. The only other active driver that has done the same is Kevin Harvick.

While Hamlin won the race, it was almost one the most impressive come from behind victories in NASCAR history. Kyle Larson started at the back with car that had been repaired. He had a fire in his pit stall, spun out on Turn 4 and had three pit-road penalties. That said, he was leading the race with just 2 laps to go in regulation when Chase Briscoe went underneath him while fighting for the lead. This caused the 17th caution of the night and sent the race into overtime.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

As we sit, Denny Hamlin launched himself into the third position with his win last weekend. He is one of three drivers with 2 wins on the season and he sits with 309 points. Ross Chastain kept his first-place position with two wins and 455 points while William Byron is in second with two wins and 420 points. Round out the top 5 are Chase Elliott with 489 points and Kyle Busch with 452 points. Joey Logano follows him up with 423 points, with Alex Bowman (415 points), Kyle Larson (412 points), Chase Briscoe (349 points) and Austin Cindric (294 points) round out the top-10 drivers in points.

The drivers who have been fast all year will continue to be fast this weekend. This isn't like Talladega or Daytona where a big upset can happen. While Kyle Larson hasn't raced here yet, he did show up to Nashville Superspeedway last season and won it with no prior experience. Kyle Busch has been racing very well as of late, but we like Larson to pick up his second win of the season this weekend.
