Austin, Texas is the site for this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series race as we head Circuit of the Americas for the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix. This is just the second time that NASCAR has made the trip to the 3.4-mile road course. Since the opening of this course in 2012, it has played host for the last 9 years to the United States Grand Prix. Throughout 130 feet of elevation changes on this course, you'll see 20 turns with every corner there to represent different sections of famous racetracks from all around the globe. It's a great idea and an exciting race to watch.

Atlanta Motor Speedway had its fifth different winner in 2022 after being dubbed "new". It was a wild back and forth throughout the whole day with 46 lead changes by 20 drivers and both of which are track records. With all that said, William Byron was able to fend off a large group of drafting drivers for the final 10 laps of the race to take the checkered flag. He finished .109
ahead of Christopher Bell and just .145 seconds in front of Ross Chastain. The bad news for Bell is that he ended up getting penalized for passing below the boundary line on the final lap backstretch which put him in the 23rd spot when the race was over. This gave Chastain the second-place finish for the second week straight.

It was a pretty chaotic race on Sunday with lots of lead changes in this "mini-Daytona" style course on new asphalt. While many drivers and teams thought it wouldn't be dramatically different, they would be disappointed when they left early on this day because of wrecks. Byron was able to avoid getting in any fender benders, but Chastain wasn't as fortunate. While leading the race on lap 94, Chastain blew out a tire on his car and slammed into the outside wall on Turn 2. He also lost two laps under NASCAR's damaged vehicle policy for improper fueling. He was able to make up that deficit from two straight cautions and the work by his pit crew kept him in the race.

There were many drivers involved in wrecks and many were able to catch up through cautions and when all was said and done, 28 out of the 37 cars that started this race were involved in some sort of collision. To make it out of this race in the top-10 was quite a feat.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

Five races in, Chase Briscoe sits at the top of the Playoff standings with a win and sitting with 156 points. William Byron is in second place right now with a win and 150 points. Next up is Alex Bowman, (140 points), Kyle Larson (135) and Austin Cindric (121) to round out the top 5. In the sixth spot is Chase Elliott who is the points leader with 171 points and Joey Logano next with 164 points. Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney and Aric Almirola finish out the top-10.

To pick against either Kyle Larson or Chase Elliott doesn't seem like a smart bet. The teammates from Hendrick Motorsports won five of seven road course races last season which included a first and second place finish in this race.
