With the first stage of the Round of 8 wrapped up, we move on to South Florida and come back to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Dixie Vodka 400. This will be the first time since February of 2021 that NASCAR has been at the 1.5-mile true oval track with variable banking. This track has a configuration that is unique and has pretty flat straightaways at 3 degrees while the variable banked turns are 20 degrees. This mid-sized unique track will be race number eight in the Chase for the Cup. This makes this course quite a challenge for drivers and because it hasn't been raced on in almost two years, it should be an intense one.

Homestead-Miami Speedway has played host for the NASCAR Cup Series season finale for 21 years. In 2019, the sanctioning body of NASCAR moved this race from being where the Playoff championship trophy was hoisted, to an early season date. When the Coronavirus hit, the date at Homestead went to the middle of summer in 2020 just to watch it return to its early season position in 2021. We finally get to see this race getting closer to its original spot on the schedule. That said, it's been a while since we've had a race at Homestead-Miami so there may be some surprises awaiting the drivers when they show up. One factor that should come into play is the NextGen car as it's the first time these new vehicles have seen this track.

We're getting closer to the end and with the Playoff race being a tight one, we should see some very competitive racing this weekend. While it might be a tough day from drivers, the fans will truly be in for a treat.

South Point 400 Recap

With the win last weekend, Joey Logano stamps his spot in the Championship 4. He's the first driver this season to secure his position in the next round. Logano secured his spot in the Championship 4 by racing strong at the end of the race and coming back with just a few laps to go. He was able to get fresh tires on his last pit stop and came out passing Ross Chastain for the lead with just three laps to go. It was his third win in Las Vegas and ended up getting the victory by just 0.817 seconds. Chastain led the race for 68 laps out of 267.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

Joey Logano now sits at the top of the pack and has cemented his position in the next round with the win in Las Vegas. He currently sits with 4,084 points and is 21 points ahead of second place driver, Ross Chastain. Chase Elliott has 4,062 points, while Denny Hamlin sits in the 4th position with 4,051 points. These are the top 4 if the round ended today, but there is some racing ahead of us. Hamlin is only six points in front of William Byron so we've still got some racing to do before the next round.

We can see why Tyler Reddick is the favorite of this race as he has three wins this season and has been good at Homestead-Miami Speedway. That being said these NextGen cars make this race somewhat of an unknown. Denny Hamlin is sitting in fourth in the standings right now and has a lot on the line. He has three wins on this track with his most recent one coming in 2020.
