The next stop on the NASCAR circuit is the "Track Too Tough to Tame". This is an egg-shaped track that spans 1.366 miles and as you might know, this track is unique when compared to most of the other tracks. This track is somewhere between a superspeedway and an intermediated oval. When inspecting the track, one will notice to sets of turns that are much different than one another with turns one and two being much wider than turns two and three. With the handling setup of these stock cars are a bit more complicated, the turns on this track will make for a challenge for pit crew chiefs on the day. That said, teams will have to find some middle ground when setting up the vehicles for the race this weekend. All this mixed with the banking that ranges from 23 to 25 degrees and the wide lanes will make for some very entertaining racing. What better way to start the playoffs than at Darlington?

One thing race fans might notice at Darlington is how high the cars get up in the turns. While on most standard ovals, drivers prefer to take the low line, but this is different. Drivers tend to take the high line so they can shoot out of the turns into the straightaways. The high groove on this track is almost always the fastest way to navigate this track and taking into account that we just came from Daytona where the racing is three wide, we'll be seeing some big changes this weekend.

After a rain delay of more than three hours and a little help from his teammate in Tyler Reddick, Austin Dillon pushed his way into the playoffs with Martin Truex Jr. being on the receiving end of heart break as he was pushed out of the last spot of the playoff standings. For this to happen, many things needed to fall into place for Dillon. It was his first win of the season and his second at this track.

One event that could have changed the outlook of this race was the 13-car accident in Turn 1 where Dillon was able to avoid all the chaos. Had Dillon not been able to do that, we might be looking at Martin Truex being the driver that made the playoffs. It was a great day for Dillon and a rough day for some others, but now we've finished the regular season and are heading into the most exciting time in NASCAR.

NASCAR Playoff Standings

With the playoffs starting this weekend, Chase Elliott enters as the leader with four wins on the season and 2,024 points. Joey Logano is in second place with two wins and 2,025 points. Ross Chastain sits in the third position with 2,020 points while Kyle Larson (2019 points) and William Byron (2,014 points) fill out the top five.

Kyle Larson is one of the favorites for reason. He has an average finish of 8.9 in nine Cup starts at Darlington. He's got five top five finishes which include three straight second place finishes. While he has no wins at this track, we feel like this is the day.
