In the Chase for the Cup, we have officially reached the cut off for the second round. Charlotte Motor Speedway is where the sixth race out of the 10 playoff races will take place. We are closing in on the last race of the round of 12 and four of the drivers that are still racing for the cup will be eliminated after this weekend. It's a huge weekend for drivers on the cusp and you better believe they'll be going after it.

This will be the fifth annual road course race at the oval in North Carolina. The owners of Charlotte Motor Speedway built a 17- turn, 2.28-mile road course four seasons ago that uses most of the 1.5-mile oval and adds some new turns in which they call a "roval" course. The way the roval is built is very similar to Daytona International Speedway. That said, most drivers will not be completely comfortable with this track as they are much more used to driving the standard oval. There is a bit of familiarity as the drivers have driven this course for the last four seasons, but it is still a big change from the standard oval they are used to. The pressure to do well this weekend is enormous and if you add that the drivers are not that familiar with the course, this leads us to believe it'll be a great weekend for race fans.

Georgia native Chase Elliott is a fan favorite around Talladega, and he gave the fans what they wanted this past weekend with his fifth win of the season. With just two laps to go before the end of the race, Elliott was able to pull the No. 9 car from the bottom lane all the way to the top where he would be the recipient of a big push from Erik Jones. This push was enough to get Elliott past his fellow playoff competitor, Ryan Blaney by just 0.046 seconds. In Elliott's seven-year career in NASCAR, it was his 18th win.

Chase Elliott was able to bump Joey Logano out of the top spot in the playoff standings and is sitting with 3,103 points for the season. Ryan Blaney, who finished second last weekend, is right behind Elliot with 3,101 points. Ross Chastain sits in third with 3,097 points this season as Denny Hamlin (3,090 points) and Joey Logano (3,087 points) round out the top 5. Austin Cindric, William Byron, Christopher Bell and Alex Bowman will need to race well as they are under the cut line as we sit.

This is a tough one to pick as we like both Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson to win. The two have combined for 28 top-10 finishes, 22 top-5 finishes and 11 wins on road courses in 50 career starts. They are two of the best to race these road courses and they have won the last three Bank of America Roval 400's together. That said, Larson is the defending winner of this race, and I am picking him to do it again.
