Road America hasn't been raced on since 1956. This is a fun track that we're all looking forward to seeing a race on this weekend. They have hosted numerous series including the Xfinity Series. One thing we do know about this track and most road courses is that it is going to be a fun race to watch.

That was the good news. That bad news is that with this track being considered "new", there will be same-day qualifying again and there will be a smaller window to fill out the lineups. That said, Circuit of the Americas showed us how to handle a race in this mold.

Kyle Larson did not win this race. Yes, you heard that right. This one came down to who saved the perfect amount of fuel and this weekend it was Kyle Busch who had the right formula.

Chris Buescher took the field into green on this day based on the inverted starting grid. The first one out of the race was Anthony Alfredo when he hit a wall and cut a tire. On the ensuing restart, Michael McDowell ended up getting out in front. Eventually, Martin Truex Jr. took the lead and went on to take the first stage win.

Stage 2 started with both Ryan Blaney and Brad Keselowski staying out of pit road to take the field back into green. While this looked good initially, the risk didn't pay off for either driver as they both had to pit under green which allowed Kyle Busch to take over the lead. William Byron was able to take the lead from Busch, as the number 18 had a transmission issue that he had to get worked out.

William Byron took the field back into green for the final stage of the race. During caution number 4 on the day, Chase Elliot lost the lead he had earned to Christopher Bell after an error of not maintaining speed when faking the pit stop. Bell would then make contact with Ross Chastain which caused a cut on the tire of No. 42. Then Bell and Elliott made contact, which caused a lot of damage to both drivers' vehicles.

This race essentially came down to what driver had the best strategy and fuel milage. After many drivers taking the lead and falling off, Kyle Busch was there to take the victory.

Denny Hamlin is holding on to the points lead by a thread and that is shocking when you consider he hasn't won a race yet and there are other drivers who have won multiple races. Kyle Larson sits 2 points behind Hamlin with 759 points. With seven races remaining, time is running short for those on the outside looking in. In terms of rounding out the top five, we've got William Byron in 3rd with 690 points, Joey Logano with 651 points and Kyle Busch moving into 5th with 650 points.

When it comes to road courses, there isn't a more dominant driver than Chase Elliott right now. Because this is the inaugural race for this track, there isn't a lot of past data to work from, but we can look at the drivers who excel on this style of track. Out of the last seven road course races, Chase Elliott has won five of them and came in second place at Sonoma. Another hot racer, and teammate to Elliott, is Kyle Larson who won at Sonoma.
