After a long 2020, this year has been a lot of fun and racing has been getting back to normal. However, there is nothing normal about this weekend's race. The even in Bristol is going to be unique, special and a lot of fun for both racers and fans alike. The reason behind this newfound excitement is that the race track at Bristol is being transformed form a concrete track to a dirt track. That said, you're not going to want to miss the race this weekend.
Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Recap
The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 started with Denny Hamlin on the pole. Hamlin had the lead for the first few laps until Kyle Larson snatched the lead. A competition caution because of Kevin Harvick caused him to lose his 4th place spot. Outside of that, Kyle Larson kept the lead and ended up smoking the rest of the field in the first stage for the win.
Stage 2 was the only time there was a wreck and this was because of Kyle Busch spinning his tires and causing the field to slow down. During this slow down, Kurt Busch was struck by Denny Hamlin, which sent him into the wall. That would be the end of the day for him. In addition, Brad Keselowski had his nose damaged by Martin Truex Jr. sliding in front of him and this damage ended up slowing down the No. 2 car a great deal. While this was going on, Kyle Larson took his lead to 10 seconds and won stage 2.
In the final stage of the race, Ryan Blaney was able to overtake Kyle Larson during the pit stop. It was the first time someone took the lead over Larson all day, but it would last long. Larson was able to retake the lead, but he wouldn't get out to a big lead as Ryan Blaney stayed on his tail. Blaney got closer and closer before finally taking the lead with eight laps to go, securing his first win of the NASCAR Cup Series.
2021 Cup Series Standings Update
The win for Ryan Blaney pushed him up into the number seven spot in the standings. He sits with 191 points and is 12 points behind Kevin Harvick. Denny Hamlin currently holds the points lead with 277 and is 43 points ahead of Kyle Larson (234 points). Rounding out the top 5 are Joey Logano with 214 points, Martin Truex Jr. with 212 points, and Brad Keselowski with 206 points.
