We are one race closer to the finale and we've got a great playoffs run brewing. This week drivers head to Martinsville Speedway in the round of 8 finale. In this race, Brad Keselowski will be starting from the pole position. The track in Martinsville, VA is the shortest track in the series at .526 miles.

This race is the last one before the "Championship 4" is decided. A lot can happen in this race and there are a few drivers that are have a shot at making the jump to the next stage of the Cup Series Playoffs. That said, this is a high pressure situation for drivers on the cusp so prepare for an exciting race.

This race got the red flag on Sunday and it wasn't lifted until Wednesday afternoon after numerous attempts to get the track ready on Monday and Tuesday. The wait was worth it for Kyle Busch who ended up taking the checkered flag and getting his 57th win of his career. With that win, Busch was able to keep his 16-year winning streak alive and well. That said, Busch isn't eligible to win the championship as he was knocked out after the Round of 12.

One driver that did not benefit from Busch's victory was Martin Truex Jr. He needed a win in this race and now, most likely in Martinsville to make the next stage. He did help his cause by finishing in the second spot. However, Truex Jr. was hit with a pre-race penalty of 20 points for using an altered spoiler on his car. Truex Jr. The pressure is on for Busch's teammate.

Behind Truex Jr. was Christopher Bell in 3rd, Ryan Blaney in the 4th spot, then Alex Bowman, Brad Keselowski, Kurt Busch, Matt DiBenedetto, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano rounding out the top 10.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

As we sit Joey Logano is the points leader in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs. Behind Logano is Kevin Harvick who is 42 points above the cutoff line, Denny Hamlin (+27) and Brad Keselowski (+25). Under the cutoff line sits Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman who are both at -25. They are followed by Martin Truex Jr. (-36) and Kurt Busch (-81).

Martin Truex Jr is in a good spot to win this next race. He's won the last two races in Martinsville and has racked up the most points at this track over the last six races (271 points). If Truex Jr. wants to move on to the next stage, he has to win this race. If someone was set up to get the win, it would be Truex Jr. as his history is a testament to that.

Alex Bowman has his work cut out for him as he has the worst average finish in Martinsville at 22.0 out of the current playoff drivers. He has no top-5 finishes and only two top-10 in his starts at Martinsville.
