NASCAR will feature a rare Thursday night race this week at Kansas Speedway when the Super Start Batteries 400 takes place. The speedway is an asphalt oval track located in Kansas City, KS and it features turns anywhere between 9 and 20 degrees. Denny Hamlin last won at Kansas in October, which was his 2nd career victory at the track. Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Martin Truex Jr. have all had success in Kansas as well, with each winning two races there.

Austin Dillon pulled a surprise victory in Texas after narrowly beating Tyler Reddick. It ended up qualifying Dillon for the playoffs after missing out last season. Reddick and Dillon were strategic in getting their leads, taking calculated risks during cautions and restarts to remain in the front. They also had a bit of luck with Quin Houff wrecking multiple cars during a green flag stop when he exited pit row. Both drivers avoided full pit stops and held off the rest of the field for the final 23 laps. Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the Top 5 on Sunday. The average speed of the race was 137 mph and it lasted a little of 3.5 hours. There were 29 leads changes among 12 drivers with Ryan Blaney having led the most laps with 150. Harvick led for 40 laps while Aric Almirola led the field for 35 total laps. Dillon had been winless in his last 88 races, so we'll see if Sunday's win can get him back on track.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

Harvick still leads the field after yet another Top 5 finish in an incredibly consistent season. Sunday was his 11th finish in the Top 5 out of 18 races this season. He's finished in the Top 10 in 15 of the 18 races. Harvick holds a 91 point lead currently over Ryan Blaney, who sits with 630 points. Keselowski is 15 points behind Blaney in 3rd with Logano and Chase Elliot rounding out the top 5. All 5 of those racers has qualified for the postseason, with each having won at least 1 race this year. Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Alex Bowman, Cole Custer, and Dillon have also won races this season. Keselowski has the most Top 10 finishes besides Harvick with 13, but Blaney has more Top 5 finishes and more laps led (497 to 414). Logano has led the 2nd most laps of all drivers with 560, but he has only 4 Top 5 finishes so far. In terms of average finishing position, Harvick again leads the field with a 6.6. Keselowski is the only other driver who has an average finish in the Top 10, averaging 9.3 so far this year. Denny Hamlin is tied with Harvick for the most wins with 4, and he's also 2nd with 9 finishes in the Top 5. Kyle Busch, who is currently 10th in the standings, is actually 3rd in Top 5 finishes with 8, but he's been wildly inconsistent and has yet to take home the checkered flag.

Who will win this event at Kansas? Ryan Blaney has only 1 win to his name this season, but he's going to make it 2 on Thursday night. With 9 Top 10 finishes to go along with 7 finishes in the Top 5, Blaney has had a really consistent season to this point and I'm rolling with him in Kansas.
