We've got a tight race coming down to the wire and this will be an important one coming up. After this weekend, we're going to hear some complaining from drivers as having a superspeedway race (Charlotte Roval) and a road course (Talladega) is going to lead to some talented drivers being left out in the cold. This is why this weekend's race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is so important. We have the South Point 400, and then two races to finish out the the second round that will definitely throw a wrench is some plans.

When trying to pick what might happen this weekend, you could look at the Pennzoil 400 back in February to give you an idea, but there are quite a few differences between that race and this race in the time of COVID. There will be an obvious difference in the temperature, but what makes this even more interesting is that in February drivers had three practice sessions to work out the kinks in their car. This race will happen without any practice so drivers might be spending that first leg of the race trying to figure things out.

Bass Pro Shop Night Race

Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick battled down the stretch in this exciting race. Out of the two successful stock-car racers, Kevin Harvick was able to hold off the defending NASCAR Cup Series champ over some intense final laps. This race was Harrick's ninth victory of the race season which puts him in some elite company, and the season isn't even over yet. Beating Kyle Busch at Bristol is no easy feat as he has a total of eight wins there. However, Harvick was able to pull it off and stay at the top during this season. Overall, it was Harvick's 58th win in his Cup career.

For the Round of 16, the race at in Bristol was the cutoff event. At the start of the race William Byron, Cole Custer, Ryan Blaney and Matt DiBenedetto were below the cutline. When all was said and done, those same drivers were below the cutline and were eliminated from the playoffs.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

The second points reset comes with the new round in the NASCAR Playoffs. At this point, Kevin Harvick sits in the top spot of the points standings with 3,067. He is followed by Denny Hamlin, who has 3,048, and Brad Keselowski who has 3,035 points. Now comes the fun stuff. Drivers ranked 7th through 12th are separated by just eight points. In the seventh spot with 3,005 points is Alex Bowman and he's followed by Austin Dillon with 3,005 points. Aric Almirola is technically tied with Dillon for the last transfer spot. Clint Bowyer and Kyle Busch both trail Almirola by just one point. Kurt Busch sits in that 12th spot with 3,001 points. As one can see, the race in Las Vegas is an important one knowing what the following two races will be all about.

The odds seem to favor the recent winners of the race. The only two racers to win this race are Martin Truex Jr. in 2019 and Brad Keselowski in 2018. Joey Logano is also thrown in there as the third driver at +500. However, you shouldn't count out Harvick or Hamlin, but in this race, we're going with a guy who is due for a short track win.

Now we will ride them for a second straight week against another NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are 8-2 on the season, yet are only around a field goal favorite. I still do not trust Sam Donald to win consistently over the course of a 17 game regular season. Minnesota is not as good as their 8-2 record would indicate and playing outdoors in Chicago on Sunday will cause issues for them on both sides of the ball. Chicago has been hit or miss this season, but they will be up to play another divisional rival and we expect them to take this down to the wire as well.
