Watkins Glen usually hosts this race, but due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Go Bowling 235 takes place at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach this Sunday. It is a 3 stage race with 15 laps for the first 2 and 35 laps for the final stage. The road course is 3.57 miles, and it's much different than what drivers are used to. Chase Elliot has done well at Watkins Glen, so he is the favorite here as well. He won the last 2 years at "The Glen" and seems really comfortable on road courses.

Kevin Harvick won back-to-back races last weekend to separate himself from the pack even more. On Sunday he outlasted Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. to take home his 6th win of the season, which is now tops on the circuit. Harvick led for 90 laps while Clint Bowyer was the only other driver with significant laps led with 43. He ended up finishing 14th, however. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano rounded out the Top 5 at Michigan, while Aric Almirola and Matt DiBenedetto finished right behind them. The race was only a 156 lap race that Harvick controlled for most of the day. He accumulated 53 points toward the NASCAR Cup Series Championship, which he now leads by 137 points. It was also his 3rd win in a row at Michigan, as well as his 4th win in the last 5 races there. Although he led for most of the day, Hamlin gave him a run for the money down the stretch, but Harvick held him off for the last lap to win yet again at Michigan International Speedway.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

With 6 wins under his belt for the year, Harvick continues to lead the field in the race for the Championship. He has now finished in the Top 10 on 19 occasions in 22 races, including 15 times in the Top 5. Brad Keselowski is in 2nd place behind Harvick due to his consistency, but he only has 3 wins and 9 Top 5 finishes. In a normal year that would maybe have him in the lead, but Harvick is simply unconscious in 2020. Hamlin did have the most wins before last weekend with 5, and he's in 3rd place in the standings. Hamlin has an impressive resume to speak of as well this season, boasting 12 Top 5's to go with 14 finishes in the Top 10. Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott round out the Top 5 in the standings, with both drivers winning once this year. Elliott is probably the biggest threat this weekend with his road course resume, so Blaney's hold on the 4th spot may not last. Harvick, Keselowski, and Hamlin all have average finishes in the Top 10 this season, but Harvick's average finish of 5.9 is far and away the best on the circuit. Hamlin finishes 9.4 on average while Keselowski finishes 9.6. In terms of laps led, Harvick again leads NASCAR with 888 laps led, while Hamlin is over 250 laps behind him in 2nd place with 631.

Who will win this event at Daytona? The easy answer is to go with the red-hot Harvick here. Or even Chase Elliot, who is the 2-time defending champ at the Glen. I'm going to pick Brad Keselowski based on where the odds are. At +800 that seems like a solid bet to make and his consistency should put him in the running.
