Race: Dixie Vodka 400
Date: Sunday, June 14, 2020 at 12:30 PM EST
Location: Homestead-Miami Speedway
TV: Fox
Homestead Miami Speedway is set to host the Dixie Vodka 400 this Sunday as NASCAR continues to pack in the races to make up for lost time. This is only the 21st NASCAR race at the track, so it's relatively new compared to most tracks on the circuit. The track is asphalt and it has 18-20 degree banking. The track opened in 1993 and held their first NASCAR race there in 1999. It's a 1.5 mile track with 3 degree straightaways.
The Cup Series standings tightened up after the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500. Kevin Harvick, who leads the Series with 452 points, had his worst finish of the season (15th). Joey Logano, who finished 4th, is now 28 points behind the leader Harvick after collecting 51 points on Wednesday. Martin Truex Jr. is now 4th in the standings after his win and Chase Elliot is right ahead of him in 3rd. In terms of laps led this season, Harvick leads with 542 followed by Logano with 453. Brad Keselowski ranks 5th this year overall, and his average finish of 8.8 is the only driver besides Harvick with an average finish in the top 10. Harvick's dropped to 6.4 after his disappointing finish on Wednesday.
Blu-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 Results
Martin Truex Jr. won his first race of the season in the Blu-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 on Wednesday. Truex led for 132 laps and was able to accumulate 47 points toward the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. He started in the 5th position but was able to stay near the front the whole race. Joey Logano led most of the race (234 laps), but Truex led when it mattered. Logano was able to earn 51 points with his 4th place finish, which was the most of any driver on Wednesday. Ryan Blaney finished 2nd after starting 1st, but he only led 34 laps. Brad Keselowski continued his really consistent season with a 3rd place finish at Martinsville. Keselowski started 6th and only led 5 laps, but he notched another Top 5 finish to stay in the Championship hunt. Chase Elliott rounded out the Top 5 at Martinsville after starting in 11th. Elliott only led 1 lap on the day. Truex ended up taking the lead in the race with 130 laps to go and never lost it. He cruised to a 4 second lead on 2nd place Ryan Blaney and nobody really bothered him down the stretch. The only other driver to lead significant laps was Jimmie Johnson (70 laps led), who finished 10th after starting 21st. He did win Stage 2 of the race though, which allowed him to collect 45 points toward the Cup Series Championship. This race extended Johnson's losing streak and it's something that has to be weighing on his mind lately. Odds for the Dixie Vodka 400 are as follows:
Kevin Harvick 9-2
Kyle Busch 5-1
Martin Truex Jr. 5-1
Chase Elliott 13-2
Brad Keselowski 17-2
Alex Bowman 10-1
Denny Hamlin 10-1
Joey Logano 10-1
Ryan Blaney 12-1
Jimmie Johnson 22-1
Kurt Busch 25-1
William Byron 35-1
Erik Jones 40-1
Clint Bowyer 50-1
Matt Kenseth 75-1
Tyler Reddick 75-1
Aric Almirola 100-1
Matt DiBenedetto 100-1
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 100-1
Who will win this event at Miami? Harvick is the logical choice here but after his finish at Martinsville, I'm going to pick Chase Elliott (13-2). He's been really consistent lately and I think he gets the win in this race.
Guy's Pick: Take Chase Elliott 13-2
