With a postseason spot still up for grabs, NASCAR heads to Daytona International Speedway on Saturday for the Coke Zero Sugar 400. The 2.5 mile tri-oval track is arguably the most well-known and popular track on the circuit. There is a still a postseason spot up for grabs as well, so the race is really important. Jimmie Johnson, Matt DiBenedetto, and William Byron will all be vying for the final spot on Saturday.

Drydene 311 Results

The Drydene 311 had a doubleheader last weekend that was won by Denny Hamlin (Saturday) and Kevin Harvick (Sunday). The two best drivers this season continued their dominance and Harvick clinched the regular season trophy with his win. He led for 223 laps and didn't really feel threatened all day en route to his 7th win this year. Hamlin had tied him with his 6th win on Saturday, but Harvick got the better of him in the 2nd race. Martin Truex Jr., Jimmie Johnson, William Byron, and Alex Bowman rounded out the Top 5 on Sunday. On Saturday, Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Harvick, and Chase Elliot finished behind Hamlin. Joe Gibbs Racing took home the top 3 positions on in Race #1 but Truex Jr. was the only driver from that team to finish in the Top 5 on Sunday. Harvick also tied Busch for 9th on the all-time wins list with his 56th win in the 2nd race. It was also Ford's 700th overall win on the circuit.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

Harvick won the regular season title with his 7th win on Sunday. He has finished in the Top 5 in 17 races and in the Top 10 in 21 races. So only 4 races this season Harvick has finished outside of the Top 10. If he's not your favorite heading into the Playoffs, it's probably Denny Hamlin, who is currently second in the standings. Hamlin has won 6 races including 14 finishes in the Top 5 and 16 in the Top 10. Harvick has led 1,111 laps so far this season with Hamlin leading 762. Brad Keselowski is in 3rd in the standings with 881 points (160 behind the leader). He's finished in the Top 10 on eighteen occasions, but only has 3 wins to his credit. He also only has 9 finishes in the Top 5. Truex Jr. and Joey Logano round out the Top 5 heading into the final regular season race. Logano has 2 wins while Truex Jr. has 1. He does have 16 finishes in the Top 10, however, while Logano has 14. Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliot, and Aric Almirola are also having good years, although Almirola has yet to win a race. Jimmie Johnson will be a driver to watch out for at Daytona due to what's at stake. He's currently 15th in the standings, but he has finished in the Top 10 nine times this season. He's also led 102 laps, so even though he is winless, he's been competitive at times this year.

Who will win this event at Daytona? With 3 co-favorites at 9-1, I'm leaning toward picking Kevin Harvick for the sole fact he's at 12-1. He's also won the most races on the circuit, leads the points standings, and even though he's clinched the regular season championship he'll still be motivated to win at Daytona.
