"The Brickyard" at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is set to host it's 27th NASCAR race on Sunday. The iconic 2.5 mile oval track is located in Speedway, Indiana and has been around since 1909. 1994 was the first year hosting NASCAR races. The turns have 9.2 degrees of banking only, so expect top speeds for the 160 scheduled laps. Jeff Gordon currently has the most wins at Indianapolis, winning 5 times previously.

Pocono 350 Results

Pocono hosted back to back races for the first time in NASCAR history last weekend, with Denny Hamlin taking home the win on Sunday preceded by Kevin Harvick on Saturday. Coincidentally, both drivers also finished 2nd in the other race. In terms of the Pocono 350, Hamlin led 49 laps after starting the day in the 19th position. He was able to collect 41 points toward the Cup standings and has now won 4 races this year, which is tops on the circuit. It was also Hamlin's 6th career victory at Pocono, which ties Gordon for the most all-time wins at the track. Harvick lost the lead to Hamlin on Lap 105 when he pitted and Hamlin stayed on the track. He was then able to build a 33 second lead before pitting on Lap 120. After the exchange Hamlin still held a 2 second lead over Harvick and was able to fend him off the rest of the way. Harvick was able to accumulate 47 points toward the Cup Series Championship, leading 11 laps on the day after starting 20th. Erik Jones, Chase Elliot, and Aric Almirola rounded out the Top 5 on Sunday. Jones' 3rd place finish was his best of the year so far and he started way back in 38th to begin the day. Kurt Busch was the only other driver to lead significant laps, as he led for 35 total laps on the day. He ended up finishing 13th, however, after he started the day in the 3rd spot.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

Harvick stretched his lead over the field with his 1st and 2nd place finishes last weekend. He now has 581 total points, which is 52 points more than Ryan Blaney. Harvick has now finished in the Top 10 on 12 occasions in 15 races this year. He has been by far the most consistent driver, collecting 3 wins and 8 Top 5 finishes. He's led the most laps as well, leading for 572 laps this season. His 7.3 average finish is also tops among drivers. Blaney is still within striking distance with 529 points. Blaney only has 1 win this year, but he's finished in the Top 5 seven times, which is almost half the races he's competed in. He's led for 329 laps this year, which isn't even among the leaders, but his consistency in finishing as earned him the #2 spot in the standings. Brad Keselowski is in 3rd with 514 points, and his average finish of 9.7 is 3rd best among drivers this season. Hamlin, who is now in 5th in the standings, is 2nd in average finish with 9.0 and 1st in wins with 4. Hamlin has led for 436 total laps on the campaign.

Who will win this event at Indianapolis? It's hard to bet against Hamlin or Harvick at this point in the season, but Brad Keselowski has been almost as consistent without as much fanfare. I'll take Keselowski at +750 to win at the Brickyard.

Now we will ride them for a second straight week against another NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are 8-2 on the season, yet are only around a field goal favorite. I still do not trust Sam Donald to win consistently over the course of a 17 game regular season. Minnesota is not as good as their 8-2 record would indicate and playing outdoors in Chicago on Sunday will cause issues for them on both sides of the ball. Chicago has been hit or miss this season, but they will be up to play another divisional rival and we expect them to take this down to the wire as well.
