In the history of the NASCAR Cup Series, they've never held a playoff race at Bristol. Well, things have changed this year. That said, this is going to be quite a hectic race. First of all, Bristol is Bristol and secondly, this race will be the decider in who moves on to the second round of the playoffs. The bottom four drivers in points at the end of the race will see their Championship chances dashed and the winner will advance. The Bass Pro Shops Night Race is always a fun one, but the implications of this race make this even better. Fans around the world will benefit.

Federated Auto Parts 400

In the second race of the NASCAR playoff series was the Federated Auto Parts 400 and five drivers were within 10 points of one another. However, the pressure of the points race didn't affect Brad Keselowski in this one and he was able to run away with first place in a crash-free race. This was only the third race of this season that didn't have a non-competition caution. With the victory, Brad Keselowski was able to lock in his move into the Round of 12. He joined Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick as drivers who were able to solidify that spot before the Round of 16 final race. Martin Truex Jr. finished in second place while Joey Logano finished strong again with a third place finish. Out of all playoff drivers, William Byron had the toughest outing by finishing in 21st place. That finish will put him on the edge of being eliminated.

2020 Cup Series Standings Update

This weekend will be the race where a 16 driver playoff will become 12. With the current way that NASCAR is set up, the best way to move on to the next round is to win the race. However, there is only room for one driver to earn the victory, so the others will be looking for all the points they can get.

Kevin Harvick was the first driver to secure his spot in the next round by winning at Darlington Raceway. While he didn't finish the race in dominating fashion like we're used to, the win got him and the team into the next round. That said, Harvick would have most likely made it by points alone. Brad Keselowski was the winner at Richmond Raceway in dominating fashion. His car has been extremely fast and he'll be looking to keep that momentum going. Finally, Denny Hamlin locked himself into a seat at the next round table based on the points he accumulated throughout the season. He hasn't raced as well lately with a 12th place finish at Richmond and a 13th place finish at Darlington. However, he sits at third in the playoff standings and has time to get it going again.

Drivers that are looking good heading into this weekend's race at Bristol are Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr. and Austin Dillon. These three sit in the next three spots in the standings and as long as they have a decent finish, they should be sitting nicely.

Who will win this event at Bristol? It's tough to go against Kevin Harvick in this race. He has two wins at Bristol Motor Speedway and his car has been extremely fast this season. In fact, Harvick has an average ranking for Green Flag Speed of 1.8. He finished outside of the top 13 only once in his last 10 races at Bristol and he's gotten top 3 in three of those races.
