Alsco Uniforms 500 Picks, Odds, & Predictions 5/27/2020
Race: Alsco Uniforms 500
Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 8:00 EST
Location: Charlotte Motor Speedway
TV: FS1
Charlotte Motor Speedway is set to host it's 2nd race this week on Wednesday as NASCAR continues to try to make up for lost time. The 1.5 mile track hosted the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday, so drivers will be really familiar with it for this race. The quad oval track has 24 degree turns and 5 degree banks on the straightaways, so it's pretty standard in terms of NASCAR tracks.
Kevin Harvick finished in the Top 5 once again to retain his lead atop the Cup Series standings. Harvick now has finished in the Top 10 in all 7 races this season, including 5 times in the Top 5. He has 291 total points, which is a 23 point lead over Joey Logano, who finished 13th on Sunday. Harvick has an average starting position of 9.7 but an average finishing position of 4.7, showing he has been better on race days than in qualifying to this point in the season. He's led 328 of the 1,898 laps he's driven but he still only has 1 win this year. Logano, on the other hand, does have 2 wins, but he only has finished in the Top 10 on 3 occasions. His average starting position is 6.7 while he finishes 11th on average, meaning he's not racing as effectively as Harvick on a consistent basis. Logano has also only led 165 laps out of the 1,889 he's raced. Alex Bowman is also in the hunt, only 2 points behind Logano. Bowman (266 points), is another driver who has qualified higher (average of 8.3) than he's finished (13th), so that's something to consider when gauging who to pick.
Coca-Cola 600 Results
Brad Keselowski edged out Jimmie Johnson under caution for the Coca-Cola 600 title. Johnson was later disqualified after failing post-race inspection, so Chase Elliott wound up the official runner-up. Elliott gambled by pitting under caution and lost his lead after being in control down the stretch. Keselowski only led 21 laps, but he led at the most important time. He accumulated 44 points toward the NASCAR Cup Series standings, which he is currently ranked 5th. Elliott actually garnered more points with 48, as he led 38 laps. Ryan Blaney, Kyle Busch, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the Top 5. Blaney started 26th and Harvick started 22nd, so both drivers had excellent days. Harvick kept his Cup Series lead with 33 more points. Alex Bowman led the most laps with 164, so he was able to get 47 points even though he finished 19th overall. Martin Truex Jr., who is favored in the Alsco Uniforms 500, received the most Cup Series points with 56, after he finished 6th and led for 87 laps.
Odds for the Alsco Uniforms 500 are as follows:
Martin Truex Jr.+500
Kyle Busch +600
Chase Elliott +600
Alex Bowman +800
Kevin Harvick +900
Jimmie Johnson +900
Brad Keselowski +900
Joey Logano +1,000
Denny Hamlin +1,300
Ryan Blaney +1,600
Kurt Busch +1,800
William Byron +2,000
Erik Jones +2,000
Who will win this event at Charlotte? I like Bowman because of how he raced on Sunday. He led 164 laps before faltering, so I think he feels comfortable at Charlotte.
Tony's Pick: Take Alex Bowman +800
