2014 Colorado Buffaloes Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/28/2014
Former Alabama assistant coach Mike MacIntyre is entering Year 2 of his complete overhaul of the Colorado program. The Buffaloes have been in the Pac-12 for three seasons but they are still adjusting to the venues and style of play. But this could be a year to make some progress.
2014 Oregon Ducks Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/27/2014
The Ducks continue to be a college football juggernaut. And they may have the most gain from the expansion to a four-team college football playoff to determine the national champion. Oregon has been close to the BCS Title but was never able to break through. Regardless, this program is 47-6 over the past four years and will continue to be a national power.
2014 USC Trojans Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/27/2014
The Trojans have floundered and been a massive disappointment in the post-Pete Carroll Era. But the return of one of his top former assistants, former Washington coach Steve Sarkisian, has injected life back into this program. It’s not like USC has slipped into the depths. But last year’s 10-4 mark only came after a midseason coaching change and plenty of drama.
2014 UCLA Bruins Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/27/2014
The hype around this UCLA program is reaching a fever pitch heading into the season. Many prognosticators believe that Jim Mora has the Bruins positioned for a potential national championship run. And with 17 starters – including stud quarterback Brett Hundley – back from a team that went 10-3 last year it is tough to argue with all the hope around this program.
2014 Stanford Cardinal Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/27/2014
The Cardinals have been one of the best programs in the country over the last four years, boasting an absurd 46-8 record during that span. Considering that as recently as 2006 these guys were 1-11 the turnaround is nothing short of remarkable.
2014 Arizona Wildcats Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/27/2014
Coach Rich Rodriguez is still waiting for that breakout season down in Tucson and is hoping that things really click in his third season in the desert. Arizona has gone 8-5 the past two years under Rich Rod and has sported an 8-5 mark in four of the last six seasons. They are hoping to break through that glass ceiling this year.
2014 Oregon State Beavers Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/27/2014
Mike Riley had a bizarre season last year, beginning with a stunning home loss to Eastern Washington and ending with a surprising blowout win over Boise State. In between Oregon State took advantage of a weak schedule to earn a bowl trip. Oregon State put a scare into Stanford and Oregon last year. But this team’s 7-6 mark was a bit misleading and we will find out what this team is all about this fall.
2014 Ball State Cardinals Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
Call me crazy but I think this is the year that Ball State finishes above Northern Illinois in the MAC West. I know that they lost a huge piece in quarterback Keith Wenning, but their schedule is considerably easier than NIU’s. Look for Ball State to take advantage of this and to get to double-digit victories again this season. I would be surprised to see them push Toledo for the West crown.
2014 Central Michigan Chippewas Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
This is a number that I wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot pole. If I had to take a side it would be the ‘under’ as I don’t see Central Michigan winning seven games. I just don’t think they have the talent to beat some of the better teams in the MAC. They went 6-6 last season and I see that being possible again, but I don’t see them performing well against the upper echelon.
2014 Eastern Michigan Eagles Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
This is another one of those lines that I feel is dead on. If we had another half of a win on this posted total I would really like the ‘under’ but I feel as if the Eagles are going to win two games for the second consecutive season. Eastern Michigan has been one of the worst teams in college football over the course of the last few seasons and I see that continuing in 2014.
2014 Toledo Rockets Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
This is a tough spot for the Rockets. They lost some key talent but they bring back 17 starters from a team that went 7-5. They have a difficult schedule but they also have the ability to upset a team from out of the MAC. All in all I see this team eclipsing the posted total of six as they go at least 7-5 again and actually make it to a bowl game this season.
2014 Western Michigan Broncos Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
This is a young, young team. Western Michigan has the number one recruiting class in the MAC and they are going to need it. The Broncos went 1-11 last season and with such a young team it will be hard to take them to win three or more games. With the bottom of both leagues as bad as it is one of these teams has to win a few games. If I was going to pick a team out of Western Michigan or Eastern Michigan to win a couple it would be the former, but still not enough to take them to win three times.
2014 Northern Illinois Huskies Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
Northern Illinois is a very interesting team. The Huskies went 12-2 last season and are pegged to win 9-10 games this year. But I am taking the ‘under’. The Huskies lost some huge talent from last seasons campaign and they have a tough schedule at the start of the season. If things don’t go well at the beginning of the year things could get a bit out of hand and this squad could finish 7-5.
2014 Akron Zips Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
This Zips squad has a great shot to be the second best team in the MAC East. And due to that they can go ‘over’ the posted total of 4.5. Akron had a solid season last year going 5-7. Yes, I know that a record under .500 is never something to boast about, but this is also a team that won six games total over the four previous seasons. Look for the “resurgence” to continue.
2014 Bowling Green Falcons Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
Bowling Green is the cream of the crop in the MAC and they will prove it by winning double-digit games this season. The Falcons won 10 games last season and they will look to continue to get better. Bowling Green will have a new coach in Dino Babers, who will look to bring his uptempo offense from Eastern Illinois to the MAC, but they won’t skip a beat.
2014 Buffalo Bulls Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
The Buffalo Bulls had a great season by their standards, winning eight games and going to the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Bulls lost some key components from last season’s team and this will have an effect. The MAC East is open behind Bowling Green, but I just don’t see Buffalo with enough firepower to finish in the top three.
2014 Kent State Golden Flashes Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
Kent State was an 11-win team in 2012 before they absolutely fell apart in 2013. The Golden Flashes won a meager four times in 2013, but that was due to inexperience and injuries. That team managed four wins and this one only has to be one game better to eclipse the posted total. I, for one, see them doing so.
2014 Ohio Bobcats Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
This posted total seems to be right on the money. If I was going to go on the Bobcats I would take the ‘under’ as they lost a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. Last season was a solid one for Ohio, but that was due to a crop of talent that they haven’t had in a while. I would stay away from this line, but if you needed to make a play here it is the ‘under’.
2014 Miami-Ohio Red Hawks Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
I know, I know: it’s not that gutsy a call saying a team will win more than one game. But this is also a team that went 0-12 last year. Head coach Chuck Martin is a proven winner as he has two D-II National Championships and he was Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator in 2012 when they went to the title game. Martin can get the job done for the Red Hawks, and by that I mean they can win more than one game.
2014 Massachusetts Minutemen Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Strike Point Sports - 7/27/2014
The Massachusetts Minutemen have won a total of two games over the last two seasons but I see them at least getting to that number 2014. This team just doesn’t have the depth nor skill players that can help them move too far up the ladder but the bottom teams in the MAC will beat up on each other, causing each to settle around 2-4 wins in 2014.
2014 Indiana Hoosiers Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
The Hoosiers were THAT close to reaching their second bowl game in the past 20 years last season, coming up just one game short of postseason eligibility. They will give it a go again this year against a schedule that is far less forgiving than last year’s slate.
2014 Purdue Boilermakers Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
The Boilermakers are a bad football team that went just 1-11 last year. That was partially due to the fact that they were undermanned last year. But it was mostly a byproduct of a ruthless schedule placed on a team that was breaking in a new coach and learning new schemes on both sides of the ball.
2014 Maryland Terrapins Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
Maryland joins Rutgers as the newcomers in the Big Ten. The Terps had a successful close to their stint in the ACC, going 7-6 and snapping a two-year funk. They bring a competitive team into the Big Ten. But the schedule makers did the Terps no favors, and this experienced team will have to claw its way back to bowl eligibility.
2014 Rutgers Scarlet Knights Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
The Scarlet Knights move to the Big Ten this year and the expectation is that Rutgers is going to struggle with a large step up in class. However, the Scarlet Knights are a good fit for the rugged style of football Midwest teams are known to play. And this program has managed three straight bowl games and a solid 64-39 overall record the past eight seasons.
2014 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
Notre Dame’s lucky trip to the national title game two years ago will be paying dividends for bettors for a decade. Long one of the most overrated teams in the country, the Irish will remain overvalued as the betting public buys into the storyline that this program is back among the nation’s elite.
2014 BYU Cougars Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
The wacky Mormons are still getting used to life as an independent and were really a non-entity in the 2013 season. Sure, their win over Texas in early September caught some headlines. But losses to Virginia and Utah, as well as a blowout loss to Washington in a third-tier bowl game, really puts things into perspective for the Cougars.
2014 Navy Midshipmen Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
Navy football is what it is. They continue to use the triple-option attack and remain one of the trickiest teams in the country to steal a win from. Outside of its annual clash with Army, Navy football is completely off the national radar and content with eight wins and a bowl game.
2014 Army Black Knights Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/25/2014
Army has been to just one bowl game in the past 15 years, a 2010 upset of SMU in the Armed Forces Bowl. But with one of the most experienced teams in the nation the Black Knights could break through for another appearance this fall.
2014 Ohio State Buckeyes Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
A 10-point loss to Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game was the only thing standing between the Buckeyes and a shot at the national title last year. Urban Meyer picked up right where Jim Tressel left off and has Ohio State positioned as a perennial title contender. And this year’s version should be in the mix once again.
2014 Michigan Wolverines Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Michigan’s season comes down to talented quarterback Devin Gardner and how far he can carry the Wolverines. He is one of seven starters back on offense. However, the attack unit will have six freshmen or sophomores in the starting lineup and they will need to grow up in a hurry. The defense has eight starters back, including five seniors, and they will try to improve on Michigan’s No. 66 scoring rank.
2014 Wisconsin Badgers Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
It has been an average couple seasons for the Badgers, who have gone just 17-10 after going 32-8 the previous three seasons. But thanks to being on the favorable end of Big Ten realignment the Badgers can be average and still dominate their bumbling competition in the limp West.
2014 Penn State Nittany Lions Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Former coach Bill O’Brien helped the Nittany Lions weather the immediate aftermath of the crippling Jerry Sandusky-Joe Paterno scandal. But new head coach James Franklin, formerly of Vanderbilt, is now the fourth head coach in 29 games for a program that had enjoyed the same head coach for 46 years prior to the scandal.
2014 Nebraska Cornhuskers Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Bo Pelini loses four games every year. It’s just the way it is. No matter how good or bad his roster is, Pelini finds a way to lose/only lose four games each season. So it was an easy call for the books to post Cornhuskers’ season win total at 8.0. And it’s an even easier call for me to pass on this total and predict a ‘push’.
2014 Michigan State Spartans Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
The Spartans had an epic season in 2013, winning the Big Ten and then pulling an upset over Stanford in the Rose Bowl. That was the third time in four years that the Spartans have won double-digit games. And now prognosticators project this year’s team to the short list of contenders to make the new four-team playoff.
2014 Iowa Hawkeyes Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
It seems like Kirk Ferentz has been on the hot seat for a decade. But the Iowa head coach is entering his 16th season at the helm in Iowa City and will once again try to live up to the very modest goals the program has set for itself. Iowa has gone just 27-24 over the past four season and 59-43 over the past eight years.
2014 Minnesota Golden Gophers Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Jerry Kill, despite all of his health issues, has done yeoman’s work with this Gophers program. He has increased his win total in three straight seasons, culminating in a rare eight-win season in 2013, and now the Golden Gophers are trying to break through into the top tier of the Big Ten.
2014 Illinois Fighting Illini Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Given its location and recruiting base, it doesn’t make sense that Illinois is as pathetic at football as it is. But the Illini have gone just 44-77 over the last 10 years and just 6-18 in Tim Beckman’s first two seasons. Beckman strikes me as a guy that is in way over his head and I don’t expect much progress in the crucial third year of his tenure.
2014 Northwestern Wildcats Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
There is a lot going on under the surface with this Northwestern team. They are in the middle of a monumental challenge of the NCAA system and will face increased scrutiny and all kinds of off-field distraction this season. But if they can shrug that off then this Wildcats team has the potential to do some damage in the Big Ten this year.
2014 Boise State Broncos Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Bryan Harsin can only hope that his tenure in Boise will be half as successful as that of his predecessor. Chris Petersen, who went 112-18 over the last 10 years, has taken his game to Washington. Harsin, a former offensive coordinator under Petersen, will take over. And he has a team poised to make noise in the Mountain West.
2014 Fresno State Bulldogs Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Derek Carr finished off one of Fresno State’s all-time great careers, leading the Bulldogs to an 11-2 mark and a slot just outside the Top 25 last year. Coach Tim DeRuyter will try to carry on without his stud quarterback this season and Fresno will try to defend its Mountain West title.
2014 Nevada Wolf Pack Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Cody Fajardo will try to brush off the injury bug and stay healthy for his senior season. Fajardo is the key for this Wolf Pack team as it looks to bounce back from its first losing season in five years and its first non-bowl season in eight years. Fajardo is one of seven offensive starters back for the Pack.
2014 San Diego State Aztecs Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
Rocky Long seems to have landed on his feet in San Diego and has guided the Aztecs to three bowl games in his three years at the helm. SDSU does have just 10 returning starters this season, including just four on defense, and this looks like a rebuilding season. But Long is a proven commodity and his team will be tough once again.
2014 Utah State Aggies Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
I was incredibly impressed with how Utah State responded last year despite losing leader Chuckie Keeton – and breaking in a new coach – last season. Keeton is one of the best quarterbacks in the country and he is set for a strong senior season under second-year coach Matt Wells.
2014 Colorado State Rams Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
The Rams will try to carry over the momentum of their stunning New Mexico Bowl upset of Washington State into this season and are hoping for their third bowl trip in the last 10 years. Jim McElwain is entering that crucial third year as the head of this program and all signs point up for Colorado State in the long term.
2014 San Jose State Spartans Season Win Total NCAA Football Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 7/22/2014
I really hope that San Jose State fans enjoyed that incredible 11-2 season in 2012. Because it is going to be a long time before the Spartans are threatening to win double-digit games again. The Spartans tumbled to just 6-6 last season and could be even worse off in Year 2 of the Ron Caragher Era.
