After a two-year bowl ban, the Rebels are finally eligible for the postseason. Matt Luke has done an admirable job with the Rebels while they transition from the Hugh Freeze mess. And now he's trying to rebuild the talent and momentum that they the Rebels enjoyed under Freeze.

The Rebels have just three starters back on offense and have to replace solid quarterback Jordan Ta'amu and stud receivers A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf. The offensive line is starting from scratch, and the Rebels are shifting to a new offensive system with first-year coordinator Rich Rodriguez.

There are 10 starters back on defense. But Ole Miss was No. 121 in total defense, No. 113 in scoring defense and ranked lower than No. 110 in both pass and rush defense. They also have a new coordinator on the defensive side with former Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre.

In Rodriguez and MacIntyre, Mississippi now has two of the past four Pac-12 coaches of the year on their staff.

Much like Kentucky and Vanderbilt, the Rebels aren't very good, but they do have a favorable schedule. They face a tricky test in the opener at Memphis. However, early-season home games against Arkansas, Southeast Louisiana, Cal and Vanderbilt could also be victories. Toss in a late-season game against New Mexico State, and that would leave the Rebels one win short of getting back to the postseason.
