When it comes to football, the Kansas Jayhawks should stick to basketball.

Les Miles takes over in Lawrence and gives the Jayhawks a glimmer of hope. I have absolutely no idea why Miles would self-exile himself to Kansas. But here he is. I find it hard to believe he couldn't have landed a better job, maybe somewhere in the ACC, but he's decided to take over a Jayhawks program that hasn't been to a bowl game in more than a decade.

Miles has a career 142-55 mark as a head coach, and he takes over a program that is 18-90 in its last 10 years.

Again, it's an odd fit.

As bad as Kansas has been, they have even been worse than their astoundingly low expectations. The Jayhawks are just 6-82 straight up and 34-53 against the spread in Big 12 play over the last 10 years.

I don't see any indication that Miles is going to make an instant impact. This team has been short on scholarships, and their talent level is pathetic. How bad? The Jayhawks have lost to FCS teams two of the last four years.

The Miles Era opens with home games against Indiana State and Coastal Carolina. Those should be wins, but absolutely nothing is for certain with this group. Kansas will be an underdog in their remaining 10 games after that. They drop down from 19 returning starters last year to just 10 this season. Factoring in a new staff and new systems, I think this will be a "clearing the decks" season for Miles and Co.

This is an easy call on the 'under'. Kansas hasn't won more than three games since 2009. I don't see any indication they will do it this season.
