I feel bad for Paul Johnson, even though I shouldn't. The man had a severely contentious relationship with local and national media and, frankly, was always kind of a jerk. But Johnson could coach. Boy could he coach.

Georgia Tech fans finally got tired of Johnson's triple-option and erratic results. Johnson had seven winning seasons in the last 10 years - including a pair of 11-win seasons. He averaged eight wins a year during that stretch and was always an active underdog and thorn in the side of top ACC foes.

Despite all that, Johnson got the boot and now the Yellowjackets will endure the biggest rebuilding job in the country under new coach Geoff Collins. Collins, erstwhile of Temple, will have to completely overhaul the Jackets roster and scheme as he goes into a season with a roster full of players recruited and trained to run Johnson's antiquated option attack.

Georgia Tech has just nine returning starters. And by the time they suit up for their season opener at Clemson (gulp), they could be trotting out as many as 19 new starters, combined, on both sides of the ball.

The expectations for the Yellowjackets are nil. Honestly, other than a home game against The Citadel on Sept. 14, I don't expect the Yellowjackets to win a game. They might have a shot on Sept. 28 at Temple. Tech has a bye week prior to that one, and Collins will be going up against all of his old players.

Other than that, it could get ugly for the Yellowjackets. They open the season against Clemson and close the year against Georgia. That's two games against Top 5 opponents. Nothing in between will be any easier.

If Collins gets the Yellowjackets to five wins - which is the only way this bet loses - then he should be the national coach of the year. Absolutely play this one 'under'.
