2019 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Why in god's name would you bet against Alabama?
And make no mistake: betting on the 'under', even against an inflated line, is a bet against Nick Saban and his Alabama juggernaut. But that really makes no sense, so why are you even reading this article discussing whether or not you should bet this season win total 'over' or 'under'?
Bet it 'over', or don't bet it at all.
But since you clicked the link to check out my thoughts on this one, I might as well give you something.
The most impressive thing about Nick Saban's dynasty is that Alabama has actually been better than expected. (Or you could argue, like I would, that the rest of the SEC has actually been much, much worse than expected.) The Crimson Tide have had only one losing season against the spread over the last four years. Think about that. Despite the fact that every sportsbook in the country jacks up the numbers on this team, they still cover the spread 58 percent of the time (34-25 ATS).
If you go back even further, Alabama has only had two losing ATS seasons in the last decade, and they have beaten the number a solid 57.1 percent over the last 10 years (80-60 ATS).
Who does Alabama have this year? Who cares? They have Saban. They have a potential first-round NFL Draft pick under center. And they have a bunch of guys on defense and the offensive line that will be collecting NFL paychecks sooner rather than later.
Here is the kicker about Alabama, though: they play a candy corn schedule EVERY…SINGLE…YEAR.
I don't want to hear about how tough the SEC is; the SEC has been the most overrated conference in the country during the past 10 years. Seven of Alabama's first nine games are either at home or on neutral sites. The Crimson Tide play only four road games all season long. They get a bye in front of their most difficult road trip (at Texas A&M), and they also get a bye week ahead of their toughest conference game overall (vs. LSU). Oh, and let's not forget about their pseudo-bye (versus FCS foe Western Carolina) ahead of their only other decent game, at Auburn.
Alabama's schedule - once again - is a joke.
The Crimson Tide are going to go undefeated again. Maybe they will deserve it. Maybe they won't. But it is inevitable. And the fact of the matter is that the Alabama dynasty was built on seasons like this: with overwhelming talent going up against a comically underwhelming schedule.
