2015 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
I correctly predicted that Chris Peterson's first year in Seattle would go well - but not well enough to beat their season win total. Washington went 8-5 in the regular season and lost their bowl game. And now in Year 2 expectations are essentially nil for the erstwhile Boise State coach.
Washington is basically starting from scratch in Petersen's second season. They have just nine returning starters combined on both sides of the ball, and UW is projected to start more sophomores (nine) than seniors (seven). The Huskies don't have a quarterback, though they have several inexperienced options, and they have just one guy back on the offensive line.
Things aren't any better on defense. The Huskies have to replace five of their top six tacklers and have just one guy back from last year's stout front seven. The guys they do return were mainly from one of the nation's worst secondaries (No. 120 against the pass).
Washington opens the year with three of four games at home. And they have just four Pac-12 away games, so they only play five games in opposing stadiums this year. But they have to play two of the best teams in the Mountain West, including opening the year at Boise State, and they have a killer stint where they play at USC, Oregon, and at Stanford three weeks in a row. I'm not sure what is going to be left of this team when they get to the "lighter" back half of the schedule.
The Huskies are going to be bad this year. But they do still have a chance to go 'over' this win total. However, I think Petersen is playing the long game. And after what I expect will be a 2-6 start (at best), I think the coach will start working the younger guys in there. I'll call for the 'under' here but won't be surprised if they cobble together four wins.
