2014 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Mike London's seat is extremely warm after a dreadful 2-10 season that saw the Cavaliers lose their last nine games in 2013. London is just 18-31 in his four years at the helm and may need to pull a bowl bid out of his hat this season.
The Cavaliers do have 16 starters back from last year's 0-8 ACC bunch. But the big key could be on new starting quarterback Greyson Lambert, who seems poised to usurp the job from incumbent starter David Watford. Whoever seizes the reigns, it is imperative that Virginia improves upon last year's pathetic 19.8 points per game average (No. 109 in the nation).
Virginia's schedule is a nightmare. The good news is that five of the team's first six games are at home. The bad news is that they open against a powerful UCLA team and also have to tangle with Louisville in the third game of the year. Mix in a trip to BYU and a 1-3 start is probable for this group.
All those home games in September and October means that Virginia will be on the road quite a bit to close the season. Three of their last four games are away contests, at Georgia Tech, at Florida State and at Virginia Tech.
I think that the books will release this number around 4.5. But since I'm working with projected odds I will play the hand I'm dealt. And that means playing Virginia 'over'. I think they will win at least two league games this year. Couple that with wins over Richmond and Kent State and I can see a 4-8 season for London and Co.
