2014 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
The Boilermakers are a bad football team that went just 1-11 last year. That was partially due to the fact that they were undermanned last year. But it was mostly a byproduct of a ruthless schedule placed on a team that was breaking in a new coach and learning new schemes on both sides of the ball.
Things should be different in Year 2 of Darrell Hazell's reign. They have 15 starters back and last year's youth movement should start to show some dividends. The schedule is also easier (although not exactly easy overall). Purdue doesn't play a road game until Oct. 4 and if they can take down MAC foes Western Michigan and Central Michigan then this team should be at three wins after they beat Southern Illinois on Sept. 20.
That means that just one upset would put Purdue over their season win total here. Unfortunately their most beatable opponents - Illinois, Minnesota and Indiana - must be faced on the road. But the Boilermakers always seem good for one upset per season. And I think they can scrounge up that fourth win to get 'over'.
The Big Ten is deep and experienced this year. But I think that Purdue has just enough moxie to find that fourth win and go 'over'.
