2014 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Under'
The Sooners are still dining out on their demolition of Alabama in last year's Sugar Bowl. And the feeling around Norman is that the win over the SEC power could be just the thing to revitalize a program that has been good, but just not good enough, over the past few seasons.
Oklahoma will start the season in the Top 5 and will be one of the overwhelming favorites to earn a spot in the new college playoff. Redshirt sophomore Trevor Knight, who lit of Alabama in the bowl win, has a lot of buzz and plenty of talent around him. But what he doesn't have is a lot of experienced help. That's not the case on defense, where nine starters return under Mike Stoops' tutelage.
Besides talent, the schedule is a major reason why the Sooners are on the short list of national title contenders. Their toughest games are all at home or at neutral sites. And the only real trap situation is a tricky game at TCU the week before the Red River Shootout with Texas. If Oklahoma wins both of those games in early October they stand an excellent chance of going undefeated.
Two losses would sink this wager. They've won 57 of 61 home games, so I think the Sooners have just three games they could lose this year (at TCU, vs. Texas and at Texas Tech). I think they win two of those games. I will take a sip of the Kool-Aid and say that OU will go 11-1 in the regular season and sneak 'over' its season win total.
