2014 Season Win Total Prediction: 'Over'
I know, I know: it's not that gutsy a call saying a team will win more than one game. But this is also a team that went 0-12 last year. Head coach Chuck Martin is a proven winner as he has two D-II National Championships and he was Notre Dame's offensive coordinator in 2012 when they went to the title game. Martin can get the job done for the Red Hawks, and by that I mean they can win more than one game.
The Miami (OH) Red Hawks are going to find themselves with an immediate upgrade at QB with Andrew Hendrix taking the lead, transferring in from Notre Dame. Hendrix will take some of the pressure off the ground game creating a little bit of an uptick from the year before. Hendrix will also have fellow transfer Alex Welch at the tight end position and a very deep WR core. Look for the Miami (OH) offense to be considerably better than it was last season. I mean, they have to be after averaging less than 10 points per game.
The Red Hawks defense might actually be something to get excited about. This defense returns seven starters, albeit ineffective one, and is led by second-team all-conference linebacker Kent Kern. Look for this unit to just be better than they were last season as their LBs and their secondary (three out of four starters and eight of nine returners) will show improvement.
The Red Hawks will lose both of their big non-conference games versus Michigan, Marshall, and Cincinnati, but with the MAC being a bit worse than it was last season I see them stealing a few games. I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat UMASS, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan.
