The 2013 season must've seemed like the nightmare that would never end for the Gators. The team was decimated by injuries and bumbled their way to a 4-8 season that culminated with a humiliating November home loss to FCS foe Georgia Southern. Florida lost its final seven games of the year and missed a bowl game for the first time in almost 30 years.
Things can only get better for the Gators, and improved health will go a long way to determining their turnaround season. Will Muschamp, now in his fourth year at the helm, better hope it's a turnaround season or he could be out the door. Florida has seven starters back on both sides of the ball and if they can get absolutely anything out of their pathetic offense then the defense should be good enough to carry them into contention.
Florida begins the season with three home games against overmatched opponents. That should give Muschamp a chance to build some confidence and momentum leading into a huge trip to Tuscaloosa on Sept. 20. Beside a game against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 22 the rest of the Gators schedule is rugged. They play LSU, South Carolina and Georgia and end the regular season with a road game at Florida State.
I think Florida is much better than last year's numbers suggest and will be vastly improved. But their schedule is a bear. I think if they win two of their five marquee games it would be a feat. They have four gimme games. So that leaves games at Tennessee, vs. Missouri and at Vanderbilt to determine whether or not Florida will top this total.
I wouldn't bet more than 50 cents on this total. But if I had to put that 50 cents down I'd put it on the 'over'.
