2014 Season Win Total Picks NCAA Football: 'Over'
Cincinnati has proven itself as one of the most consistent and versatile football programs in the nation despite seemingly constant turnover on the roster and the coaching staff. The Bearcats will again be relying on a newcomer at a critical position as they vie for the AAC's top slot.
Gunner Kiel, a Notre Dame transfer, will be under center for second-year coach Tommy Tuberville this fall. Tuberville's first season in Cincinnati was fruitful as the Bearcats closed the regular season with six of seven wins. The 2014 season will rest on the arm of Kiel, who will benefit from an array of experienced skill position players to help ease him back into the swing of things.
Cincinnati has a challenging nonconference schedule this year with trips to Ohio State (Sept. 27) and Miami (Oct. 11). But they benefit from a soft league schedule, as they avoid Central Florida altogether and they get Houston at home in the final regular season game of the year.
The Bearcats have the advantage of possessing more talent than most of the schools on their schedule. However, Cincinnati has to play five of seven games on the road between Oct. 11 and Nov. 29. That is the heart of the schedule and it could prove tricky.
But even if Cincinnati loses to both Ohio State and Miami, and I believe they will be upset at least once on the road, that would still leave them at 9-3 on the season. If their season win total is set this low at 7.5 I would still be excited about an 'over' bet because they could actually get upset twice and still clear the bar.
I think that's exactly what happens. I'll call for an 8-4 mark for the Bearcats and against this number we'd play it 'over'.
