2014 Season Win Total Prediction: 'Under'
This is a number that I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. If I had to take a side it would be the 'under' as I don't see Central Michigan winning seven games. I just don't think they have the talent to beat some of the better teams in the MAC. They went 6-6 last season and I see that being possible again, but I don't see them performing well against the upper echelon.
The Chippewas could have a battle at the quarterback position this season. They have a senior coming off injury in Cody Kater, and a returning sophomore in Cooper Rush. Many say that Rush is the favorite, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Kater back at the helm early in the season. Whoever is under center will be standing upright more often than not as Central Michigan has a solid offensive line returning, lead by left guard Andy Phillips. Both Chippewa QBs have the pleasure of throwing the ball to senior wide out Titus Davis. Davis lead Central Michigan last season catching 61 passes for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns.
Central Michigan had a Jekyll and Hyde defense last season as they were seventh is scoring defense but fourth in total defense. Expect this side of the ball to be improved this season, but not good enough to contend for a conference title. The defensive line will be improved considerably as they are a year older and stronger.
The schedule facing the Chippewas this season isn't awful, but it isn't easy either. I don't see them winning at Purdue or at home versus Syracuse. I wouldn't be surprised to see them struggle at Kansas either. Add to that losses at Toledo and Northern Illinois and you are looking at a Central Michigan team that would have to win all their remaining games to go 'over' the posted total. I don't see that happening.
