On Saturday, the Wisconsin Badgers will have a much easier matchup than they did in their opening game when they take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks.
In their game against 13th ranked LSU last Saturday, Wisconsin was outscored 15-0 in the fourth quarter and ended up losing 28-24. The Badgers were only able to pass for 50 yards in the loss and converted just four of their 15 third down attempts.
Wisconsin quarterback Tanner McEvoy had a game to forget in the opener by completing just eight of his 24 passes for 50 yards and two interceptions. Running back Melvin Gordon had a solid game in the losing effort, though, by rushing for 140 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Reggie Love had one carry in the game and it went for a 45 yard touchdown.
Western Illinois had an impressive opener by beating Valparaiso 45-6 at home. The Leathernecks accumulated 593 yards of offense in the win, while holding their opponents to just 277 yards. Western Illinois did commit 10 penalties in the game, but they also went all four quarters without coughing up the ball.
Leathernecks quarterback Trenton Norvell had a great opening game by going 20-for-28 through the air for 320 yards and four touchdowns. Running back J.C. Baker had 137 yards and one score on 17 carries, while receiver Hi-C Scott had four catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
