Saturday afternoon, the West Virginia Mountaineers will visit Jack Trice Stadium to face the Iowa State Cyclones.
The West Virginia Mountaineers will close out their season hoping to avoid their 4th straight loss after dropping last week’s game 26 -20 to the Kansas State Wildcats. At times, the game was close but neither team could really take the control that you would like to have over an opponent. Kansas State led 7 -0 after the 1st quarter and extended the lead to 10 -0 early in the 2nd before a Josh Lambert 47 yard field goal got West Virginia on the board. The Wildcats added a touchdown before the half to make it 17 - 3 and opened up the lead to 20 - 3 in the 3rd before the Mountaineers got their first TD to make it a 10 point game. West Virginia tried to really late but it was too late for them to really do anything. The Mountaineers turned the ball over 4 times and unless they protect the ball against the Cyclones, they will close out the season with a loss.
The Iowa State Cyclones lost a close one the last time out as they fell to the Texas Tech Red Raiders 34 – 31. It was a game that was back and forth all of the way Texas Tech scored the first 14 points of the game but Iowa State answered two TDs and a field goal to give them a 17 -14 lead at the half. The Cyclones extended the lead to 24 -14 in the 3rd but the Red Raiders added back to back TDs to close out the quarter up 28 - 24. Iowa State got the lead again in the 4th but Texas tech scored last to steal the win. The season has been a struggle for the Cyclones but if they can summon another solid effort like this one, they might be able to find a way to win one last one at home before closing out the season on the road.
