On Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-2) and the North Carolina Tar Heels (2-2) will both be looking to pick up their first ACC win of the year. The Hokies beat North Carolina 27-17 at home last season.
Virginia Tech had their best defensive game of the year last weekend when they beat Western Michigan 35-17 at home. They held Western Michigan to just 231 total yards in the win, including only 19 yards on the ground. The Hokies' defense is giving up just 20.4 points per game this season.
Linebacker Chase Williams leads the Hokies in tackles with 33 and he also has three sacks. Junior defensive lineman Dadi Nicolas is near the top of the country in sacks with five. Virginia Tech running back Shai McKenzie has rushed for 269 yards through five games with three touchdowns.
North Carolina lost their second game in a row last Saturday when they were beaten 50-35 by Clemson on the road. North Carolina rushed for just 84 yards in the loss and their defense gave up 436 passing yards. The Tar Heels are currently 23rd in the nation in scoring with 40.8 points per game.
North Carolina wide receiver Mack Hollins only has 11 catches through four games, but he does have 277 yards with three touchdowns. Sophomore cornerback Brian Walker already has three interceptions this season and he returned one for a touchdown.
