On Saturday afternoon, the Troy Trojans will get a chance to show off their potent passing attack against the UAB Blazers in each team's first game of the season. Last year, Troy was able to pull off a 34-31 home win over the Blazers.
Troy had a tough time winning on the road in 2013 and ended up finishing with a 4-3 record in the Sun Belt and a 6-6 record overall. The Trojans passed for 322.3 yards per game last year, which was good for 14th in the country. Their defense, on the other hand, allowed 35.9 points per game, which was 109th in the nation.
The Trojans will be bringing back five offensive players and five defensive players this season. Their offense will go as their offensive line goes, which is considered to be the best in the conference going into the season. Defensive end Tyler Roberts, who had 49 tackles and 5.5 sacks a year ago, will be back to lead the defense.
No one had high hopes for UAB in 2013, but their 2-10 record and 1-7 record in Conference USA play was worse than most people expected from them. The best part of their team was their rushing game, but even that unit was ranked just 52nd in the country after rushing for 178.1 yards per game.
The Blazers will be returning 13 starters from last year's team, but they are expected to give starting roles to multiple JUCO transfers and a couple of their incoming freshmen.
